Not just a brief touch. Not for one second.
But in a controlled manner, with more than 30 degrees of slip angle and over at least 50 metres. That is exactly what the Hyptec SSR (built by GAC Aion) officially achieved, earning a Guinness World Record as the fastest electric drift ever. And yes, it is as absurd as it is impressive.

What Exactly Happened?

To claim the record, three conditions had to be met:

  • At least 30 degrees of drift angle

  • Speed above 207 km/h

  • Sustained for at least 50 metres

The Hyptec SSR did better: 213.523 km/h was measured in the drift zone. In the approach, it even touched 237 km/h. Guinness World Records was on site to officially certify the run. Is this a useful record? Absolutely not. Is it impressive? Without a doubt.

What Makes the Hyptec SSR So Extreme?

Beneath the carbon body sits a tri-motor setup with a combined 900 kW, good for approximately 1,225 hp. The system delivers gigantic torque via intelligent torque vectoring, which is crucial to stay sideways in a controlled way at such speeds. Key figures:

  • 0–100 km/h in 1.9 seconds

  • Electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h

  • 74.7 kWh battery

  • Rear-wheel-drive dynamics via smart power distribution

It is China’s first series-produced electric hypercar. And it is not cheap: converted, the price starts around 150,000 euros, with more expensive Ultimate variants above that.

Why Is GAC Doing This?

Because China no longer wants to be a follower. Years ago, European and American brands laughed at Chinese copies. Today, Chinese manufacturers set lap times on circuits, develop their own battery architectures and claim world records.

The Hyptec SSR fits perfectly into that strategy. Just like the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and BYD’s Yangwang U9, this is not purely a product story. It is a statement, “Look what we can do.”

Marketing or Milestone?

Let us be honest. An electric drift at 213 km/h does not change the world. It does not make the car more practical. It does not increase the range. It does not solve charging problems. But it does change perception.
