Volvo EX60: the electric SUV that truly changes the game
With the Volvo EX60, Volvo Cars is not simply launching a new model, but a strategic fault line in the electric SUV landscape.
This is Volvo's first fully electric mid-size SUV in the largest EV segment in the world, and at the same time the model with which the brand wants to definitively do away with range anxiety, charging stress and choice stress.
The EX60 is not a compromise car. It has been designed to do everything well at once: range, charging speed, performance, safety, ease of use and price positioning. In other words: this is the Volvo that finally makes electric driving make sense for the wider public.
810 kilometres of range: range anxiety no longer exists
The headline figure does not lie. In its most efficient AWD configuration, the Volvo EX60 achieves a range of up to 810 kilometres (WLTP). That is not only the highest range ever for a Volvo, but immediately also best-in-class within the mid-size SUV segment.
More importantly: this range is not a theoretical marketing promise. Thanks to an extremely efficient drivetrain, refined aerodynamics and smart software integration, the EX60 comes close to what many drivers today still associate with petrol or diesel cars. Electric driving here does not feel “different”, but better.
340 km of extra range in 10 minutes: charging becomes a pause, not a wait
Just as impressive is the charging performance. At a 400 kW fast charger, the EX60 can add up to 340 kilometres of range in just ten minutes. A coffee stop is enough to continue for hundreds of kilometres. That makes the EX60 particularly relevant for:
long-distance drivers
families who need flexibility on the road
business drivers who do not want to lose time
Volvo itself calls it “range comfort”, and that is not an empty term.
SPA3 & HuginCore: the foundation of Volvo's electric future
Underneath, the EX60 introduces an entirely new technical foundation. The model is built on SPA3, Volvo's new dedicated EV architecture, combined with HuginCore, the brand's central software system.
This combination brings together technologies that until now mainly appeared at the premium EV vanguard:
Cell-to-body battery integration for greater stiffness and less weight
Mega casting for faster and more efficient production
New, in-house developed electric motors
Fully centrally controlled core computing
The result? Lower costs, higher efficiency, less weight and a lower CO₂ footprint. Notably, the EX60 scores just as well on climate impact as the smaller EX30.
Three drivetrains, seven versions: electric without choice stress
Volvo has deliberately kept the line-up clear. No confusing configuration lists, but three clear drivetrain variants:
P12 AWD Electric: up to 810 km of range
P10 AWD Electric: up to 660 km of range
P6 RWD Electric: up to 620 km of range
In total there are seven variants, tailored to different lifestyles and budgets. Ordering is fully transparent: fixed prices, clear specifications and a realistic delivery time. Those who prefer can even opt for a pre-configured EX60 with immediate delivery.
Scandinavian design with a purpose
Visually, the EX60 remains true to Volvo's Scandinavian design philosophy, but sharper, lower and more aerodynamic than ever. A low nose, sloping roofline and tapering flanks give it a drag coefficient of just 0.26, a crucial factor behind the extensive range.
Inside, everything revolves around calm, space and logic:
a long wheelbase and flat floor
exceptional rear legroom
a large boot
smart storage solutions
Materials feel premium and natural, without excess. Typically Volvo, but clearly a new generation.
Audio, AI and infotainment: this is Volvo's smartest car yet
The EX60 is the most intelligent Volvo to date. The infotainment system responds without lag, maps load instantly and voice commands finally feel natural.
New is the integration of Gemini, Google's latest AI assistant. No more fixed commands, but real conversations with your car. The EX60 is also one of the reference platforms for Android Automotive OS, developed in close collaboration with Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm.
Music lovers are treated to a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, including speakers in the headrests and Apple Music with Dolby Atmos, a first for Volvo.
Safety remains the absolute Volvo DNA
As you would expect, Volvo sets the standard here too. The EX60 not only meets all regulations, but deliberately exceeds them. Thanks to an extensive sensor package, the car continuously analyses its surroundings.
New features include:
the multi-adaptive safety belt, which adapts to the occupant and the situation
an extremely rigid safety cage made with boron steel
intelligent driver assistance systems that anticipate rather than react
And thanks to over-the-air updates, the EX60 becomes safer and smarter the longer you own it.
Our verdict: this is Volvo's Game Changer
The Volvo EX60 is not an interim model, not a compromise and not an “EV variant”. This is a pivotal car for Volvo and for the market. With 810 km of range, ultra-fast charging, AI integration and thoughtful design, Volvo proves that electric driving has become mature.
This is the car that convinces the doubters. The car that reassures families. And the car that shows what the future looks like, without frills, but with vision.
