Audi A6 Sedan

Audi expands the A6 family once again with a proper classic Sedan, and does it in typically German fashion: clean, functional and obsessively refined where it truly matters. This is a business saloon that does not try to shout, yet quietly drops numbers normally reserved for EVs: Cd 0.23. According to Audi, that is the best drag figure ever for a production Audi with a combustion engine. And that aero is not just for the brochure: you feel it in stability, silence and efficiency over long distances.

What you get is an A6 that wants to combine two worlds: premium comfort (air suspension, aero-acoustics, a quieter cabin) and serious dynamic ability (rear-wheel steering, progressive steering and an MHEV plus system that can genuinely push and drive partly on electricity).

The essentials in 5 points

  • Cd 0.23: a benchmark in design and aerodynamics (historically the best for a combustion-engined Audi).

  • Adaptive air suspension (option): lower means tighter and more efficient (with an aero gain too).

  • Rear-wheel steering (option): more agile in town, more stable at speed.

  • MHEV plus: partial electric driving, 230 Nm and 24 hp of extra boost and up to 25 kW of recuperation.

  • Up to 30% quieter inside thanks to seals, insulation and noise absorbers (19 inch and up).

Design: clean, reduced, and shaped around airflow

The new A6 Sedan opts for a clean, functional body with a reduced, typically Audi design language: elegant, but with just enough sporting tension. One detail that strongly defines the side profile is the upper window contour: that curve gives the body its streamlined character without leaning towards coupe territory.

At the front you get a large, low-set Singleframe, slim headlights and prominently placed rings. But the important part sits behind that look: a carefully thought-out airflow concept in which the optimised side air intakes and the air curtains (channelling air along the flanks) play a key role. A front spoiler in the bumper reduces lift on the front axle and works together with underbody panels to keep the airflow beneath the car under control.

At the rear the silhouette is long and gently rising, prestige without drama. The two tail lights with sharp graphics, a continuous light strip and a vertical brake-light line give it presence, especially at night.

Aerodynamics: why this A6 is so absurdly efficient

The notchback shape is not nostalgia here, but pure physics. Audi explains that the sharp curvature of the boot lid, combined with a hollow groove ahead of it, creates an ideal stall (read: controlled airflow separation). Together with a large, wide diffuser that delivers a balance between low drag and stable rear-axle lift, and you feel it above all in composure at speed and less wind noise.

The headline remains: a drag coefficient of 0.23, and that is exactly the kind of number you want in this class, because it influences everything: consumption, silence, stability, even comfort.

Chassis: luxurious, but razor-sharp when you ask for it

Adaptive air suspension (option)

With the optional adaptive air suspension the A6 comes very close to the floating premium experience, but with a surprisingly technical twist: it helps the aerodynamics too.

  • In normal mode the A6 sits 20 mm lower than with the standard suspension.

  • In dynamic mode it drops a further 10 mm for a tighter, sportier feel.

  • For aero and efficiency it also uses that lower setting at higher speeds in balanced and efficiency.

That is typically Audi: comfort as the starting point, but the technology is always there to support performance and efficiency as well.

Rear-wheel steering (option)

The optional all-wheel steering does exactly what you hope for:

  • Low speeds: the rear wheels steer up to 5 degrees in the opposite direction, which makes the car noticeably more agile in town, in car parks and in tight corners.

  • Medium and high speeds: the rear wheels steer in the same direction, which makes it more stable, more precise and calmer on the motorway.

Combined with a stiffer progressive steering set-up, Audi promises a more direct steering response and more feedback.

Drivetrains: MHEV plus is no longer a marketing term

Audi goes all in here on MHEV plus mild hybrid for both diesel and petrol:

  • 2.0 TDI four-cylinder: 204 hp

  • 3.0 TFSI six-cylinder: 367 hp

What does MHEV plus actually do?

  • Supports the combustion engine and lowers CO₂.

  • Makes fully electric parking and manoeuvring possible.

  • Can drive electrically at low speed (town, traffic jams, slow traffic) and even outside town when you coast towards the next village.

  • Gives a serious shove when you pull away or overtake: up to 230 Nm of extra torque and 24 hp of extra power.

  • Recuperation under braking of up to 25 kW.

In other words: this is a mild hybrid you notice not only in a chart but in the way the car behaves (smoother, quicker off the line, quieter in stop-and-go traffic).

Silence and aero-acoustics: the quiet luxury you only get hooked on later

Audi claims up to 30% better sound insulation compared with the predecessor. That is not down to one magic intervention but to a series of small improvements that together make or break a premium saloon:

  • Tighter-closing windows and optimised door seals

  • An extra boot-lid seal to minimise wind noise

  • Tyres from 19 inch with noise absorbers

  • New engine and transmission mounts and bushings for a quieter, smoother run

This is exactly the kind of detail you only really appreciate after 300 km of motorway.
