The BMW X1 is a compact luxury SUV (subcompact crossover) from the German carmaker BMW, introduced in 2009. In its first generation (E84) the X1 used rear-wheel drive, which is relatively unusual for this segment. Later generations switched to a front-wheel-drive platform (UKL), which improved efficiency and offered more room inside.

In terms of engines the X1 offers several variants: petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and, in the most recent generation, even fully electric (iX1).
