Mazda CX-6e
The electric Mazda SUV that translates Jinba Ittai into the EV era
The Mazda CX-6e is Mazda's next big step towards fully electric driving in Europe, and positions this mid-size SUV as the electric answer for anyone who wants design, driving feel and technology but refuses to compromise on daily usability and long-distance comfort.
Mazda itself talks about a bold blend of style, performance and advanced technology, and that rings true above all because the CX-6e does not try to compete on one headline but on the total package: rear-wheel drive, a mature range, ultra-fast charging and an interior that feels both high-tech and typically Mazda: calm, logical and driver-focused.
Positioning: between lifestyle SUV and grown-up long-distance EV
The CX-6e follows the Mazda6e in Mazda's growing BEV line-up. Mazda is not opting for a mini EV or a city car here, but for a mid-size SUV that for European customers often has to be the one-car solution: commuting, family, weekends, holidays.
Design: Kodo in electric form, Soulful Futuristic Modern
Mazda lifts its Kodo, Soul of Motion design into the EV era with a style it calls Soulful Futuristic Modern: sculptural surfaces, a taut, elongated profile and short overhangs that suggest dynamism and functionality at the same time.
The 2,902 mm wheelbase is the key to the proportions: stable at speed, generous in the cabin. The body comes in seven colours, with Nightfall Violet as the hero shade: a deep hue that shifts between purple and almost black depending on the light, typically Mazda, because colour experience is never just paint for them.
Drivetrain: rear-wheel drive and linear power
The CX-6e stays true to Mazda's driving philosophy: Jinba Ittai, the feeling that car and driver form one whole. That is why Mazda opts for rear-wheel drive here, with an electric motor on the rear axle and a single-speed transmission.
In concrete terms:
78 kWh LFP battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate)
258 hp and 290 Nm to the rear wheels
0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 s
top speed 185 km/h
LFP is a clear choice: generally robust, thermally stable and suited to intensive charging, which fits perfectly with the drive-a-lot, charge-a-lot profile of a family SUV.
Range and charging: made for real distances
Mazda claims a WLTP range of up to 300 miles, which comes to about 483 km.
Fast charging is remarkably strong for this segment:
DC fast charging up to 195 kW
10 to 80% in 24 minutes
11 kW AC (three-phase) via Type 2 for charging at home or work
This is exactly the kind of charging and range balance that makes an EV a main car: fast enough for long driving days, efficient enough for daily trips without planning stress.
Interior: Japanese Ma, calm through space
Mazda refers to the Japanese concept of Ma: the beauty of emptiness and balance. In practice that means an interior that does not overstimulate but gives you calm, despite the tech. The CX-6e aims for generous head, leg and shoulder room, with a layout clearly made for travelling long distances in.
The boot is strong for this segment:
468 litres
1,434 litres with the second row folded
Interior trim comes in three flavours, depending on the version:
Warm Beige Maztex (Takumi)
Black Maztex (Takumi)
Amethyst and White Maztex (Takumi Plus)
Maztex is Mazda's synthetic premium finish (practical, hard-wearing, and in keeping with this SUV's daily-premium purpose).
Tech: 26-inch cockpit, HUD and controls that do not distract
Mazda does not opt for more screens, but for one large, smart screen: a 26-inch touchscreen with a dual-split layout, so passengers can consult information without disturbing the driver.
On top of that:
large head-up display with navigation in your line of sight
gesture control for quick actions (routes, media)
multilingual voice recognition for climate, windows and navigation
wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Mazda app with remote functions, battery management and Bluetooth key sharing
This is exactly where Mazda wants to be strong: technology that is present, but does not dominate.
Safety: family first, without compromise
Mazda explicitly positions the CX-6e as a family-friendly SUV, and you can see that in the safety stack:
9 airbags
a network of HD cameras, millimetre-wave radar and ultrasonic sensors
driver assistance systems such as Smart Brake Support, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring
The promise is clear: high-tech awareness without the car becoming nervous or patronising, an important point in Europe, where assistance systems often draw criticism when they intervene too aggressively.
