Renault Scenic E-Tech electric

The Scenic name carries weight. Not as a nostalgic label, but as a promise. Since 1996 Scenic has stood for one thing: a car that understands families. No fad, no marketing category, but a well-thought-out "voiture à vivre". With the Renault Scenic E-Tech electric that DNA is not merely continued but redefined for an era in which space, efficiency, technology and sustainability can no longer exist separately from one another.

This is no MPV in the classic sense, nor an SUV disguised as a family car. The Scenic E-Tech electric is an electric C-segment family car, designed from a blank sheet with one clear mission: to make long distances achievable electrically without compromising on comfort, ease of use or driving pleasure.

Architecture: built as an electric car, not adapted

The Scenic E-Tech electric sits on the CMF-EV platform, developed exclusively for electric vehicles. That is no detail, but the basis of everything this car does well. The flat floor, the long wheelbase of 2.78 metres and the compact battery integration produce an interior that feels bigger than many classic SUVs, while the exterior dimensions remain perfectly manageable.

At a length of 4.47 metres the Scenic positions itself exactly where families need it: roomy enough for holidays and daily logistics, compact enough for the city and car parks. The battery (60 or 87 kWh) is deliberately designed to take up as little space as possible, which results in a 545-litre boot without compromise, expandable to 1,670 litres.

Driving experience: electric, but surprisingly dynamic

Renault has paid remarkable attention to how the Scenic drives. Thanks to the low roll angle (0.4°), the long wheelbase and the Parallel Link multi-link rear axle, it feels stable and controlled even at higher speeds. The steering ratio (12:1) is identical to that of a sporty saloon, which results in a direct, predictable steering you would not expect from a family car.

The electric drive is available in two variants:

• 170 hp with 280 Nm

• 220 hp with 300 Nm

Both motors are excited synchronous motors without rare-earth metals, developed and produced in France. They deliver their power smoothly and linearly, perfectly tuned to comfort and efficiency, not to brute acceleration for the sake of numbers.

Regenerative braking is adjustable in four levels via paddles, so you can adapt your driving style perfectly to the city, the motorway or mountain roads.

Range and charging: made for long journeys

What really sets the Scenic E-Tech electric apart is its real-world usability over long distances. With the 87 kWh battery it achieves up to 625 km WLTP, thanks in part to:

• efficient aerodynamics,

• a heat pump as standard,

• and smart thermal energy recuperation.

Charging is intelligent. Via Google Maps the battery is automatically preconditioned when you approach a fast charger, which results in shorter charging times and a stable charging power. At the fast charger you can count on:

• up to 150 kW DC (87 kWh)

• or 130 kW DC (60 kWh)

In practice that means: around 2 hours of motorway range from 30 minutes of charging. AC charging goes up to 22 kW, ideal for home or public charging in the city.

Interior: space, light and calm

Inside, the Scenic is exactly what its name promises. The interior is designed around wellbeing, not around screens or gimmicks. The flat floor, large glass surfaces and light materials create an open, calm atmosphere.

The absolute highlight is the Solarbay panoramic roof, with segment-by-segment electronic dimming. No blind, no mechanism, but a smart glass surface that:

• reduces heat,

• creates extra headroom,

• and is recyclable.

In the rear, passengers enjoy exceptional leg and headroom, complemented by the Ingenious Armrest: a multifunctional centre armrest with tablet holders, USB-C, cup holders and storage compartments.

Technology and UX: digital without frustration

The OpenR Link system with Google built-in is one of the most mature infotainment systems on the market. No parallel ecosystem, but native Google Maps, Assistant and Play Store, combined with:

• advanced EV route planning,

• OTA updates,

• wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The interface is clear, fast and logically structured, with an L-shaped dual-screen cockpit that shows information without overstimulating. AI-driven suggestions help subtly, without being patronising.

Safety: beyond assistance

With more than 30 ADAS systems the Scenic E-Tech electric is one of the most complete Renaults ever. What stands out is not the number but the integration. Active Driver Assist (Level 2) combines adaptive cruise control, lane centring and map data for predictive driving.

Renault also introduces:

• Safety Coach (driving analysis and feedback),

• My Safety Switch (personal ADAS preferences with one button),

• and extensive post-crash technology (Fireman Access, QRescue).

Sustainability: not marketing, but a system

The Scenic E-Tech electric is designed with sustainability as its starting point, not as an appendix. Up to 24% of the material weight comes from the circular economy, no leather, FSC-certified wood, recycled glass and a battery that is modularly repairable and gets a second life in stationary storage.
