Subaru Uncharted EV

The Subaru Uncharted is no experimental EV and no marketing exercise either. This is Subaru finally making its electric future concrete and rational: a compact electric crossover with genuine Subaru DNA, clear drivetrain choices and above all range that actually matters.

Technically the story will sound familiar to anyone following the market, but Subaru has tuned the whole remarkably well. No superfluous complexity, but a clear line-up with two battery packs, two drivetrains and one clear mission: electric driving without stress.

Batteries and range: finally numbers that add up

The Subaru Uncharted comes with two battery packs (gross), depending on the chosen drivetrain:

• 57.7 kWh

• 77 kWh

If you go for the front-wheel-drive version (FWD) with the 77 kWh battery, the Uncharted achieves an estimated WLTP range of 585 km. That is immediately the longest range in the line-up and remarkably strong for this segment.

The FWD with 57.7 kWh logically aims lower, but at around 445 km WLTP it remains perfectly usable for daily and regional use.

Those who resolutely choose grip and confidence automatically end up with the AWD version. It is always paired with the 77 kWh battery and achieves an estimated range of 470 km WLTP, slightly lower, but fully in line with the extra performance and traction.

Drivetrain and performance: Subaru stays Subaru

Here too Subaru keeps it clear:

• FWD: 224 hp, focused on efficiency and maximum range

• AWD: 343 hp, two electric motors and Subaru's familiar all-weather confidence

The AWD variant feels the way you expect from Subaru: stable, predictable and confidence-inspiring, certainly on wet roads, snow or loose surfaces. This is no playful drift EV, but a car you use every day without thinking, in every season.

Charging: fast enough and smartly chosen

Subaru opts for a practical charging approach, without exotic numbers but with logical choices. Fast charging is possible at up to 150 kW DC, with a 10 to 80% charge taking around 30 minutes. That is not record-breaking, but perfectly in line with the character of the car.

An important detail: a 22 kW AC on-board charger is standard. That makes the Uncharted particularly interesting for those who often charge at public or semi-public chargers in Europe, where 22 kW is still the norm.

Positioning: this is Subaru's smartest EV so far

The Uncharted is more compact and more agile than the Solterra, yet more practical than many urban EVs. Subaru clearly targets drivers who:

• want to drive electric without adapting their lifestyle

• value reliability and simplicity

• have no appetite for over-engineered software experiments
