Volvo EC40

With the Volvo EC40, Volvo Cars positions itself resolutely in the premium electric SUV-coupé segment. The EC40 is no derivative, but an outspoken design model that combines emotion and efficiency with Volvo's familiar focus on safety and technology. Since the recent update it is also smarter, quicker and more efficient than ever.

The biggest change sits beneath the floor. Volvo reintroduces rear-wheel drive, a first for the brand in 25 years. The result is a more dynamic driving experience, better weight distribution and a more efficient drivetrain. The new in-house developed electric motors provide not only more driving pleasure but also a noticeably longer range.

In its Single Motor Extended Range version the EC40 achieves up to 533 km WLTP, while fast charging now goes up to 200 kW DC. That means: charging from 10 to 80% in around 28 minutes. Even the standard version with the 69 kWh battery already offers up to 476 km WLTP, which makes the EC40 one of the most user-friendly electric daily drivers in its class.

Those looking for performance are catered for too. The Twin Motor AWD combines a powerful rear electric motor with an additional motor at the front, good for four-wheel drive, strong acceleration and a range of up to 507 km WLTP. Thanks to more efficient cooling and aerodynamic optimisations, the EC40 remains impressively frugal, even at this level of performance.

Inside, the EC40 stays true to Volvo's Scandinavian DNA: a minimalist, high-quality interior with sustainable materials, a completely leather-free finish and a clean dashboard built around the Google infotainment system. Google Maps, Assistant and apps are seamlessly integrated, while over-the-air updates continuously improve the car.
