BMW M2 Gets Even Sharper: M Performance Track Kit and New Exhaust for M2 CS

BMW M once again takes its entry-level model to a higher level.

BMW M once again takes its entry-level model to a higher level.

From July 2026, the BMW M2 will receive an M Performance Track Kit, fully street legal but explicitly developed for track days. At the same time, the BMW M2 CS gets a new M Performance exhaust, which raises the bar both visually and acoustically. This is not a cosmetic upgrade. This is BMW making clear that the M2 is more than a “baby M”.

M Performance Track Kit: Race DNA, But With a Number Plate

Track days are more popular than ever. Enthusiasts no longer want a compromise SUV, but pure driving dynamics on the circuit. BMW plays into that smartly. The M Performance Track Kit includes:

  • Manually adjustable front splitter with integrated diffuser

  • Wheel arch diffusers and extra aerodynamic elements

  • A “swan neck” rear wing, inspired by the M4 GT4 and M4 GT3

  • Unique Race Mode in which the wing slides back 50 mm

  • Four-way adjustable coilover set with motorsport dampers

  • Up to 20 mm lowering front and rear

Everything was developed in the BMW wind tunnel and co-tuned by Jörg Weidinger, BMW M test engineer and record driver. And importantly: the package remains street legal when correctly set up. That is a crucial detail. You drive it to the circuit, smash lap times, and drive home again. Price tag? 23,500 euros excluding fitting (Germany).

More Than Aero: Chassis at the Core

What really makes this package interesting is not just the large wing. It is the coilover set with 4-way adjustable damping and motorsport suspension that is nevertheless homologated for public roads.

This is a clear step towards a semi-race car. With the right setup and optional ultra-track tyres, the M2 can evolve from a fast street coupé into a serious track tool.

With this, BMW clearly positions the M2 as a pure driver’s car, even within a range where the BMW M4 traditionally gets the spotlight.

M Performance Exhaust for the M2 CS

The M2 CS, with its 530 hp straight-six, now gets an optional M Performance exhaust system. The system optimises gas flow and delivers a sharper, more aggressive sound, with various sound modes.

Important detail: the tailpipes are made from carbon and titanium. Motorsport material, not a gimmick. The system also weighs approximately 8 kilograms less than the standard exhaust. Price: from 8,343.50 euros excluding fitting.

Is it expensive? Absolutely. Is it emotionally justifiable? For M customers, often yes.

AutoNext Take

This is exactly what the M2 needed. The current generation M2 (G87) received criticism for its weight and relatively mature character. With this Track Kit, BMW makes a clear statement: those who want more hardcore get it.

The interesting part is that BMW is not doing this as a separate special edition, but as a retrofit solution via M Performance Parts. Still, one question remains: how far can BMW keep pushing this without the M2 encroaching on the territory of the M4 CS or even GT models The internal hierarchy within BMW M is delicate.

But honestly? A compact, rear-wheel-drive coupé with adjustable motorsport aero and coilovers… that is exactly what purists have been waiting for. And in an era where electrification is becoming ever more prominent, this feels like a final ode to pure mechanical driving dynamics.
