The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet
The G-Class has never been just a car. It is an icon, an archetype, a timeless silhouette that has survived generations without losing its character. And today, that legend gets a new chapter: the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet.
While the first teaser caused a stir weeks ago, the phase every purist is waiting for now begins: real kilometres, real conditions, real G-Class testing.

First dynamic test kilometres in Austria
Mercedes-Benz is sending prototypes of the new G-Class Cabriolet out into the world, not for a photoshoot, but for serious data.
In the Austrian Alps, the open G-Class covers its first metres, where engineers record every detail:
torsional stiffness without a roof
aerodynamic stability
vibrations, resonances and open-top sound experience
behaviour on tarmac and rough terrain
All to guarantee one thing: the typical, unadulterated G-Class experience, just with the sky above your head.
Next stop: winter test programme in Sweden
Like every G-Class, the Cabriolet also has to prove it is more than a lifestyle object. Later this winter, the prototypes head to Sweden for:
extreme cold
deep snow
ice tracks
frozen slopes
intensive off-road stress tests
This is where it will be decided whether the Cabriolet deserves the same indestructible reputation as its closed sibling.
The soul of the G-Class remains untouched
The G-Class does not exist because of design or marketing. It exists because of feel. The Cabriolet has to carry that same DNA:
the upright stance
the mechanical honesty
the luxurious yet functional character
the iconic seating position
the “I-can-handle-anything” confidence
Mercedes-Benz emphasises that every G (open or closed) has to be a place where you feel at home instantly. It is not an SUV. It is a G-Class.
When will we know more?
Mercedes-Benz is keeping the technical details under wraps for now. But one thing is clear: the G-Class Cabriolet will not be a curiosity, but a new milestone in one of the most beloved car lines in the world.
