New Fiat 500 Hybrid: 64 hp, manual and a fresh look
Small engine, big efficiency
Under the bonnet sits a 1.0 three-cylinder mild hybrid with a 12V system, good for 64 hp. That's 5 hp less than the old 500 Hybrid, but Fiat is resolutely focused on efficient urban driving.
The engine sends its power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, a choice we're seeing less and less in this segment.
Performance
100 km/h in 16.2 seconds
Convertible: 17.3 seconds
Top speed: 154 km/h
Consumption: 5.3 l/100 km
No sensational figures, but that's not the goal either. This is a city car through and through.
Built on the 500e's platform
Although it looks almost identical to the electric 500e, this Hybrid is technically a completely different car from its predecessor. Fiat uses the same underpinnings as the 500e, because the old 500 (mechanically 17 years old) no longer met the new European cybersecurity regulations.
Upgrading the old platform would have been too expensive. So Fiat took an unprecedented route: adapting an EV platform for a combustion engine. A first, and at the same time a smart cost saving.
Recognisable look, subtly adjusted
From the outside you can barely tell the difference from the 500e, apart from a redesigned grille with extra air intakes for the petrol engine.
Inside, you get the full interior of the 500e:
10.25-inch infotainment screen (Stellantis)
New, larger storage module in the dashboard
Gear lever positioned higher next to the steering wheel, just like on the previous 500
The finish stays typically Fiat 500: stylish, compact and slightly nostalgic.
Back to Mirafiori
With the arrival of this new Hybrid, production of the 500 moves back to Turin (Mirafiori, Italy), the same factory where the 500e also rolls off the line.
That's no coincidence. Disappointing sales of the 500e and Abarth 500e brought production at Mirafiori to a halt several times. Fiat wants to fix that by building the Hybrid on the same lines.
Fiat CEO Olivier François previously stated that the arrival of the Hybrid should secure the factory's productivity once again, while also meeting consumer demand:
“The new combustion-engine 500 is proof that social relevance remains central to our brand strategy.”
Production & outlook
Production of European Fiat 500 Hybrid models has already started.
Right-hand-drive versions follow from April 2026.
Fiat expects more than 100,000 units produced per year.
Prices start from €19,240 (VAT included), comparable to current 500 Hybrid pricing.
