Red Bull unveils the definitive design of the RB17
Red Bull has definitively pulled the curtain back on the RB17 (its first hypercar ever), and one thing is immediately clear: this is not a car that makes compromises. The Red Bull Racing RB17 is a pure track-only machine, developed with a single obsession in mind: absolute lap time.
After a first preview in 2024, the final design has now been locked in, just before production begins. And yes: it looks even more extreme than expected.
Aerodynamics above all
The definitive RB17 looks sharper, tighter and more aggressive than the original prototype. Every panel, every opening and every line has a single function: directing air as efficiently as possible.
At the front we see narrow LED headlights fully integrated into the carbon-fibre bodywork. Deep air channels run along the flanks, directing airflow towards enormous cooling zones at the rear. The roof intake feeds directly into the mid-mounted engine, while a monumental central fin (as if plucked straight from Le Mans) safeguards stability at high speed.
Notably, despite its exclusive circuit-only existence, the RB17 is fitted with mirrors and even a windscreen wiper. A clear signal that this design is production-ready and not merely a show car.
A cockpit without distraction
Inside, Red Bull resolutely opts for race-car logic. No large touchscreens, no unnecessary luxury. Physical buttons, a tight steering wheel and an extremely focused driving position set the tone.
Everything in the interior is designed with one goal: letting the driver perform as efficiently as possible on track. Sightlines, ergonomics and controls are fully tuned to high speeds and maximum concentration.
Cosworth V10 + electrification: Formula 1 DNA
The heart of the RB17 is downright sensational. The powertrain consists of a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V10, developed by Cosworth, which revs all the way to 15,000 rpm. The combustion engine alone already delivers dizzying power, supplemented by an electric motor that adds extra force.
The result is a combined output of 1,200 hp, sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a sequential six-speed gearbox. A hydraulically locking active limited-slip differential provides traction, while the hybrid system handles reverse, entirely in race-car style.
Ultra-exclusive and uncompromising
Only 50 examples of the RB17 will be built. Each one is currently in its final testing phase, which means the start of production is not far off.
The RB17 is not a hypercar aimed at boulevard use or lifestyle image. This is Red Bull in its purest form: Formula 1 knowledge translated into an uncompromising circuit machine, designed for owners who value lap times more than comfort.
