There are cars that touch you. And there are cars that temporarily switch off your brain, reset your heart rate and make you wonder for a few seconds whether you are still living in the same physical dimension. The McLaren 750S Spider belongs to the second category. A car that looks like a facelift of the 720S, but in reality feels like a new chapter in hypercar thinking, wrapped in a supercar silhouette.

I have spent an enormous amount of time in the 720S Spider. I know its weaknesses, its brilliant sides, its breaking points. So I thought the 750S would be predictable. A bit more power, a bit less weight, slightly different bumpers. That kind of thing.

But this is no facelift.
This is a reset button.
This is a McLaren that has finally grown up.

The first kilometres: this feels different

As soon as you set off, you notice it. The quirky fragility of the 720S is gone. The car feels more substantial, more solid, more refined. Nothing rattles, nothing creaks, nothing moves that should not. The switches, the panels, the structure of the interior: everything feels a hundred times better than before. You immediately feel that McLaren has made a huge leap in build quality here, something they neglected for years.

And that alone changes the experience profoundly. Because when a car that delivers 750 hp feels this solid, something rare emerges: confidence.

Interior and technology: simplicity that works

The interior remains typically McLaren: minimalist, functional, almost clinical. No excessive frills, no theatrical show. The legendary rotating display from the 720S is gone, a pity for the spectacle, but honestly: nobody bought that car for that screen. What remains is a cockpit that focuses you entirely on driving.

The new DNA switches above the steering wheel (inspired by the Artura) are a huge upgrade. You no longer have to search or reach. Everything sits exactly where your fingers want to be. It feels logical, mechanically satisfying and above all: it gives you the feeling that you are operating a machine built to perform, not to charm.

The rest is familiar, but better. A different layout, sharper graphics, more stability. Simple, but effective. A cockpit for those who see driving as a craft.

Comfort: the biggest surprise

I knew McLaren valued comfort, but this beats everything. The 750S Spider floats. Not figuratively. Literally. The chassis filters out imperfections as if you were in a luxury GT, not in a supercar that could tear the Nordschleife apart. You feel next to nothing. Even with the roof open it stays quiet, clean, calm. It is almost absurd that a car with this performance can be this refined.

You can drive 1,000 km in this without your neck, back or soul protesting. That is a rare quality in this sector. Ferraris and Lamborghinis cannot do this at this level. Even the 720S could not do it this well.

But then… you switch everything to sharp

You turn the DNA switches. You put it in manual. You pull the paddles. And at that moment the 750S Spider explodes into a completely different personality. Everything becomes harder, sharper, more intense. The engine reacts like a reflex, not like a mechanical component. The gearbox feels telepathic. The brakes almost pull your forehead onto the windscreen.

30 hp more seems little on paper, but the entire calibration has changed. The car is more aggressive, more direct, less forgiving, and precisely because of that even more fun. The grip is otherworldly. The control is insane. You can take it to the edge of its ability and it keeps communicating with you as if to say: "Come on, I've got you."

There is hardly any turbo lag, hardly any drama. Only pure speed. Pure clarity. Pure engineering.

This is one of the best driver's cars you can buy today. Full stop.

The last of its kind

This is not just any McLaren. This is the last full-ICE supercar you can buy from the brand. No hybridisation, no electric assistance, no artificial sound engineering. Just a raw, mechanical twin-turbo V8 with 750 hp that still feels as if it has a soul.

That makes it not only brilliant, but also emotionally valuable.
This is a car that is already collectable, even though it is new.

AutoNext Verdict

The McLaren 750S Spider is no facelift. It is a correction. An evolution. Proof that McLaren has listened to criticism and built something that finally matches its ambitions.

It is faster. It is sharper. It is prettier. It is better built.
It is more comfortable than ever.
But above all: it feels the way a supercar should feel.

Raw when you want it.
Zen when you need it.
And always, but truly always, magical.

Not cheap, but this is one not to sell.
The last V8 McLaren ever.
And probably the best.
