Opel Astra & Astra Sports Tourer

Opel has taken the covers off the updated Astra and Astra Sports Tourer, and this is no subtle update. This is a clear repositioning of one of Europe’s most popular compact cars. Everything has been sharpened: design, technology, lighting and even the choice of materials. The result looks modern, high-tech and remarkably grown-up.

The world premiere follows in January at the Brussels Motor Show, but we already got a deeper look at what Opel is about to deliver in the compact class.

A new face for the Astra, with a lit Blitz

The design team drew on the striking Corsa GSe Vision Gran Turismo concept car, and you can see it immediately. The Opel Vizor front is tighter and slimmer, which instantly makes the Astra look more technical. But the real statement is in the middle: the illuminated Opel Blitz.

For the first time the logo itself forms a functional light, integrated into the horizontal and vertical light lines of the Compass signature. It gives the Astra a distinctly premium look, unique in this class.

New wheel designs and fresh metallic colours such as Kontur White and Klover Green make the overall look even more striking. With an optional black roof, the Astra also gains a sportier, almost coupé-like presence.

Intelli-Lux HD: more than 50,000 light points that read your gaze

Where other brands in this segment are still working on matrix lighting, Opel skips a step. The Astra now gets Intelli-Lux HD technology with more than 50,000 LED elements, directly inspired by the Grandland.

The beam adapts entirely digitally: in corners the light automatically follows the driver’s line of sight, in the rain distracting reflection is dimmed, and oncoming traffic is masked faster and more precisely. Even road signs are lit slightly less brightly to prevent glare.

This is lighting at a level normally reserved for premium brands, and now it is simply available on an Astra.

New Intelli-Seats: ergonomic comfort, now standard

Inside, Opel opts for simplicity and calm. The cockpit is cleaner, the materials feel more modern, but the most notable feature is the new Intelli-Seats, now standard on every trim.

These seats use a central pressure-relieving recess (inspired by the design of racing bike saddles) to spare the back and tailbone on longer journeys. Anyone who wants to go a step further can choose AGR-certified ReNewKnit seats, made entirely from 100% recycled material, including massage and memory functions.

Astra Electric: up to 454 km of range and now Vehicle-to-Load too

The electric Astra gets a noticeable upgrade. With a new 58 kWh battery it now travels up to 454 kilometres WLTP, a gain of 34 kilometres. That brings the Astra Electric close to the efficiency of more expensive EVs.

Also new is V2L (Vehicle to Load): ideal for powering e-bikes, laptops or camping gear on the go without an external power source.

Space remains a strong point: up to 1,634 litres in the Sports Tourer

Despite the technological upgrade, the Astra remains a practical family car. The hatchback offers up to 1,339 litres of luggage space, while the Sports Tourer reaches up to 1,634 litres. The rear bench folds down in three parts (40:20:40), perfect for bikes, skis or longer items.

The Astra 2026 is ready for a new chapter

With an illuminated Blitz, HD lighting with 50,000 pixels, 100% recycled materials, superior seats and more electric range than ever, Opel reinvents its compact best-seller.

The full reveal follows in January 2026 in Brussels, but one thing is already certain: this is the most modern and technical Astra Opel has ever built.
