The electric Defender is delayed, and 110,000 buyers a year are why

JLR has reportedly pushed the next-generation Land Rover Defender back by two years, taking the all-electric version into the early 2030s. The current car's aluminium D7x platform cannot house a big enough battery, and with roughly 110,000 sales a year it is under no commercial pressure to be replaced. The smaller Defender due around 2027 is still on course, but it is no longer EV-only.

A robot vacuum company promised a 0.9-second rocket supercar, and has quietly given up on cars

Dreame, the robot vacuum maker, has shut down its car division a year after entering the market, ending a rocket-boosted electric hypercar that claimed 0 to 100 km/h in 0.9 seconds. Layoffs since May have cut a team of nearly 1,000 people to a few dozen. Former staff told China Economy that the concept shown at CES had no chassis and was moved around by remote control.

Continental's 43% recycled EV tyre is ready. The rulebook is not

Continental has built a passenger car tyre from roughly 43 percent recycled material that still earns the top EU label rating for rolling resistance, developed inside the EU funded ZEvRA circularity project. The supplier says the engineering works, but Europe has no agreed definition of recycled content to let it scale.

Four Porsche importers teamed up to build their own ducktail GT3

Porsche unveils the 911 GT3 Bergsport on 1 September, a special edition created by its importers in France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland and sold nowhere else. It pairs the familiar naturally aspirated flat-six with a factory ducktail spoiler, and it is aimed at alpine passes rather than lap records.

A Geely-owned plug-in hybrid just crossed the Sahara to prove it can go 1,000 km

Geely-owned brand Lynk & Co drove its 08 plug-in hybrid SUV 3,200 km across the Sahara, from Morocco to Senegal, to show off its range. The 08 offers up to 200 km of pure-electric range and more than 1,000 km combined, and already holds two Guinness range records. The stunt underlines how big combined range is becoming the industry's answer to charging worries.
