Rob's Advice

MG stands for Morris Garages, the Oxford dealership where Cecil Kimber started tuning Morris saloons in 1924. The octagon badge came to mean one thing above all: the affordable British sports car, from the pre-war Midgets to the MGA, the MGB and the little MG Midget that half of Britain learned to drive in.

The brand survived British Leyland, Rover and a collapse in 2005 before SAIC, China's largest carmaker, bought the name and the Longbridge design studio. What it did next surprised everyone: it turned MG into the fastest-growing car brand in Europe on the back of well-priced electric cars.

Today MG sells the MG4, MG5 and ZS, the HS and the compact MG3 hybrid, plus the Cyberster, an electric roadster with scissor doors that finally puts a sports car back under the octagon. British name, Chinese scale, and prices that make buyers who never considered an EV take a second look.
