BYD DOLPHIN SURF

With the DOLPHIN SURF, BYD sets a new standard in the compact EV segment. This fully electric hatchback is purpose-built for the European city: compact on the outside, surprisingly roomy on the inside and packed with smart technology. The result? An agile city car that is as much fun to drive as it is practical, with no concessions on safety, connectivity or ease of use.

Compact size, big on convenience

With its city-friendly dimensions (just under 4 metres long) the DOLPHIN SURF feels perfectly at home in narrow streets and tight car parks. At the same time the clever e-Platform 3.0 makes optimal use of the wheelbase (2,500 mm), so four adults can sit comfortably. The 308-litre boot is generous for the segment and grows to 1,037 litres with the rear bench folded, ideal for shopping, weekend trips or pushchairs.

Design with character

The DOLPHIN SURF stands out with its sharply cut lines and playful details. From the crystal structure in the C-pillar (with a floating-roof effect) to the full-width LED tail lights: everything breathes fun and functionality. The roof spoiler improves aerodynamics, while the wide stance and 15 or 16-inch wheels give it a confident look. This is no anonymous city car, but an EV with personality.

Blade Battery and e-Platform 3.0

Under the skin the DOLPHIN SURF relies on BYD's Blade Battery (LFP) and the e-Platform 3.0 developed specifically for EVs. This combination guarantees high safety, long service life and efficient packaging, without cobalt. Depending on the version two battery sizes are available, with a WLTP range of up to 322 km combined and even up to 507 km in urban use. For many European city drivers that means days of driving without charging.

Efficient, brisk and surprisingly fun

The DOLPHIN SURF is available with several power outputs, up to 156 hp (220 Nm) in the most powerful version. That takes it from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, brisk enough for city traffic and ring roads alike. Charging is quick and simple: DC fast charging (up to 85 kW) takes the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes, while 11 kW AC charging (three-phase) is standard. A practical detail: Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) lets you power external devices up to 3.3 kW, handy for outings or working on the move.

Smart and welcoming cabin

Inside, the DOLPHIN SURF combines a fresh, functional layout with a surprising amount of technology. The centrepiece is the 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen with BYD's latest interface, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-finger gestures for climate functions and voice control via Hi BYD. NFC keyless entry via smartphone or wearable, pre-heating and pre-cooling via the app and multiple storage compartments make daily use effortless. And yes: ISOFIX on three seats underlines the family-friendly approach.

Safety without compromise

Safety is built into the design. The body makes extensive use of high-strength steel, while the Blade Battery passes one of the toughest safety tests in the industry. ADAS systems are standard and include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and intelligent high-beam assist. So the DOLPHIN SURF feels just as assured in dense city traffic as on the motorway.
