Maserati MCPURA Cielo

Open-air driving, unfiltered, the purest Maserati experience under the sky

The Maserati MCPURA Cielo is not a derivative, not an open version and certainly not a compromise. This is a fully fledged super sports car developed from the very first sketch to be driven open without any loss of performance, structure or precision. Where many convertibles favour elegance over dynamics, the MCPURA Cielo does exactly the opposite: it adds emotion without taking anything away.

This is Maserati at its most sensory.
Pure energy. Pure speed. Pure connection.

Design: open architecture, closed discipline

Visually the MCPURA Cielo stays true to the taut, low and technically pure silhouette that put Maserati back on the supercar map. The proportions are unchanged: compact, wide and extremely low, with short overhangs and a pronounced cab-backward stance. The difference is not in what you see, but in how it has been solved.

At the centre is the innovative electrochromic PDLC glass roof. This smart-glass roof can switch between transparent and opaque in one second, or open completely in just 12 seconds, even on the move at up to 50 km/h. Closed, it offers thermal insulation and structural calm; open, it creates an unrivalled sky feeling that you rarely find in this segment.

Aerodynamically the Cielo remains surprisingly efficient. Maserati integrated the roof mechanism in such a way that airflow, cooling and downforce are preserved, even with the roof open. No visible compromises, no extra aero appendages, just form following function.

Carbon monocoque: open, but razor-sharp

The MCPURA Cielo is built around the same carbon-fibre monocoque that also underpins Maserati's most extreme projects. Crucially, this chassis was developed from the outset for both coupe and Cielo, with adapted carbon lay-ups to retain torsional rigidity despite the absence of a fixed roof.

The result is an open supercar that steers like a closed car. No vibrations, no vagueness, no delay in feedback. The body stays taut, even under heavy lateral loads or at circuit pace.

With a kerb weight under 1,500 kg and a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 2.33 kg per hp, the MCPURA Cielo is among the lightest and purest open supercars of the moment.

Nettuno V6: Formula 1 technology, unfiltered

Behind the cockpit lies the beating heart: the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 Nettuno, entirely designed, developed and built by Maserati in Modena. With 630 hp at 7,500 rpm and 720 Nm from 3,000 rpm, this engine delivers performance that is not just impressive on paper but above all mechanically tangible.

The patented pre-chamber combustion technology, derived directly from Formula 1, ensures faster and more efficient combustion. In the Cielo it comes through even more intensely: with the roof down you hear the turbos build, the exhaust breathe and the engine live. This is no synthesised sound. This is genuine mechanical emotion.

Driving: from GT to uncompromising Corsa

The MCPURA Cielo has five drive modes (each with a clearly distinct character), selected via the mechanical drive mode selector in the centre console, inspired by luxury watches.

  • GT: the default mode, surprisingly comfortable and perfectly usable for daily driving

  • WET: maximum stability and traction on wet roads

  • SPORT: sharper throttle response, faster shifts and more involvement

  • CORSA: circuit mode with minimal intervention, maximum experience

  • ESC OFF: full control in the driver's hands

In Corsa mode Launch Control becomes available and the car responds without filter to every input. Yet the Cielo remains manageable, proof of how finely chassis, electronics and aerodynamics work together.

Interior: performance luxury, open-air experience

Step in through the iconic butterfly doors and you immediately notice that the MCPURA Cielo revolves around the driver. Alcantara dominates the interior, lighter than leather, with more grip and better resistance to intensive use, complemented by carbon and finely finished details.

The new steering wheel, inspired by Maserati's GT2 racing car, has a flattened top for better visibility and control. The start button sits directly on the wheel, just as in a real racing car. Shift lights and carbon accents are available as options.

Despite its open character the cockpit remains calm and focused. Everything is designed to support speed, concentration and control.

Technology and connectivity

The MCPURA Cielo is equipped with the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) system, based on Android Automotive. Two identical 10.25-inch screens (one for the driver, one central) keep visual reorientation to a minimum.

Specific to the MCPURA are the performance pages, with real-time data such as turbo pressure, engine temperatures, brake temperatures and torque distribution. Via Maserati Connect you stay connected with the car, including navigation, vehicle status, OTA updates and Amazon Alexa integration.
