With the unveiling of the smart #1, smart marks a crucial turning point in its evolution. Where the brand was once synonymous with tiny city cars, it now introduces a fully fledged premium electric compact SUV that combines technology, comfort and smart mobility in one convincing package. Developed and designed under the lead of Mercedes-Benz and built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture, the smart #1 brings compact agility, spaciousness and modern premium features together in a car that fits life in, around and beyond the city perfectly.

Design: bigger, smarter and striking

The design of the smart #1 removes the boundaries between function and emotion. With its sporty, streamlined SUV silhouette it shows a progressive interpretation of smart's new design DNA: clean, minimalist and yet expressive. The frameless doors, flush door handles and the characteristic floating halo roof not only improve aerodynamics but also give this SUV a unique, almost premium coupé-like profile, a style that completely transcends smart's traditional microcar image.

At a length of around 4,270 mm, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase and a carefully optimised space-to-footprint ratio, the smart #1 delivers a surprisingly roomy cabin that does not fall short of larger SUVs in its segment.

Electric drivetrain: efficient, quick and versatile

The smart #1 is a 100% electric SUV with drive variants that suit a range of mobility needs:

• Single motor, RWD (272 hp): brisk acceleration (around 6.7 s 0-100 km/h) and direct responses in the city and on country roads.

• Dual-motor AWD (Brabus, 428 hp): sporty dynamics and a sprint to 100 km/h in around 3.9 seconds, supported by sporty tuning and torque-vectoring techniques for better grip and handling.

The range of the smart #1 varies by version, but modern battery packs of around 66 kWh deliver a WLTP range of roughly 400 to 440 km in the Premium and Pro+ versions, enough for daily drives and weekend trips without range anxiety.

Battery and charging: fast and future-proof

The smart #1 offers modern charging infrastructure compatibility:

• AC charging up to 22 kW for home or work

• DC fast charging up to 150 kW, which allows a charging session from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes at suitable stations

This flexible charging capability makes the vehicle suitable for daily short trips as well as longer distances with quick stops at fast chargers.

Interior and technology: premium, interactive and people-focused

The interior of the smart #1 is designed with connectivity and comfort at the top of the list. The cabin feels roomy and modern, with high seating positions, panoramic glass and a digital cockpit that puts the driver at the centre. The HMI system combines intuitive operation via a large display with AI-driven voice assistance and personalisation options for lighting, display and settings, which makes every trip feel like a personal, connected experience.

Via the smart app, drivers can manage the car remotely, share virtual keys and integrate the car into a broad ecosystem of services and updates.

Safety and assistance: support without intrusion

As you would expect from a modern electric SUV, the smart #1 is equipped with a suite of driver assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive assistance, lane support, automatic braking systems and more. These systems are designed to increase safety without dominating the driving pleasure, so the driver always stays in charge.

Versions and positioning

The smart #1 is available in several configurations, from the practical Pure and Pro versions to the more extensive Premium and the performance-oriented Brabus variant. Each model offers its own balance of range, performance and luxury features.

In terms of price, the smart #1 sits competitively in the segment of premium small electric SUVs, with base models starting around the mid-€30,000 level, depending on market and version.
