Jaecoo is Chery's answer to a simple observation: a lot of European buyers want a car that looks like it could cross a desert, even if it mostly crosses the school run. The name combines the German Jäger, hunter, with cool, and the brand was launched in 2023 alongside its urban sister, Omoda.

The Jaecoo 7 was the first car, a boxy, upright SUV with a vertical-slat grille and an unmistakable nod to the Range Rover school of design, available as a petrol, and as a plug-in hybrid with more than 1,200 km of combined range. The interior, with its large portrait screen, punched well above the price.

Today Jaecoo sells the 7 and the smaller 5, in petrol, hybrid and electric form, with a seven-year warranty and a rapidly growing dealer network across Europe. It is not trying to be exciting. It is trying to look expensive for less, and on that count it is winning.
