On Christmas Eve 1898, Louis Renault drove his tiny Voiturette up the steep Rue Lepic in Montmartre to win a bet, and took twelve orders on the spot. From that hill climb grew one of Europe's great car companies, and a habit of inventing the car that people did not yet know they needed.

The 4CV put post-war France on the road, the Renault 4 and 5 made practicality charming, the Espace created the people carrier in 1984 and the Scénic did it again for the compact class. On the track, Renault brought the turbo to Formula 1 and has powered a dozen world titles.

Today Renault is drawing on that back catalogue with a confidence it has not shown in years. The electric 5 and 4 are design-led reinventions of national icons, the Scénic E-Tech and Mégane E-Tech carry the family range, and the Clio and Austral keep the hybrid side honest. French flair, built for everyday life.
