Hyundai Belgium and Luxembourg have introduced the IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink, a new range-topping trim built almost entirely around a single colour theme. It starts at €90,095 and can already be ordered, with deliveries from September 2026

Hyundai BeLux has launched the IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink, a new top-tier trim for its award-winning three-row electric SUV built around a deliberately monochrome design. Priced from €90,095 including VAT, it is available to order now in Belgium and Luxembourg, with deliveries beginning in September 2026. Hyundai has not disclosed separate battery or range figures for the Black Ink, which suggests it inherits the standard Calligraphy AWD's mechanical package unchanged.

Black on black on black

The exterior gets a matte black Hyundai emblem, exclusive 21-inch black alloy wheels, and glossy black rear trim. Inside, black Nappa leather covers the seats, the steering wheel is trimmed in black leather, and the aluminium dashboard inlay is finished in black rather than its usual brushed tone. "With Calligraphy Black Ink, we have strengthened the visual character," said Christopher McKinnon, Vice President at Hyundai Motor Europe, while preserving the features customers value across the continent.

What €90,095 actually buys

With no separate technical figures published for the Black Ink, the standard IONIQ 9 Calligraphy AWD gives the closest indication of what sits underneath. That version pairs two electric motors for a combined 315 kW (428 hp), enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and a 200 km/h top speed, drawing from a 110.3 kWh battery, 107 kWh of it usable. Hyundai quotes a WLTP range around 600 km and combined consumption of 17.8 kWh per 100 km. At roughly 2,725 kg, it is a genuinely large three-row SUV, competing in a segment that increasingly includes rivals like the Lexus TZ, rather than a lightly disguised crossover.

An SUV that has already collected a trophy case

Hyundai is not shy about the IONIQ 9's résumé so far, citing German Premium Car of the Year 2026, Best Seven-Seater from Parkers, Best 7-Seater Electric SUV from Top Gear, and World's Best Large SUV honours from the World Car Awards. That kind of recognition already has precedent within the brand: the IONIQ 6 N won World Performance Car honours in the very same 2026 World Car Awards cycle, so a Large SUV win for the IONIQ 9 keeps Hyundai's electric range firmly in that conversation. That accumulated credibility is presumably why Hyundai feels comfortable pushing a near-€100,000 flagship trim rather than sticking to a value-focused base spec.

AutoNext Take

A near-€100,000 monochrome special edition is an unusual place to find Hyundai these days, a brand that built its European reputation on value rather than black-on-black exclusivity trims. That the IONIQ 9 has picked up enough awards, from Parkers to the World Car of the Year jury, to make this kind of positioning credible says more about how far Hyundai's flagship EV has actually travelled than the trim itself does.

Whether black wheels, a black badge, and Nappa leather genuinely justify sitting at the top of a near-€100k SUV lineup is a fair question, especially with Hyundai disclosing no mechanical changes to go alongside the visual ones. This reads less like a genuinely new model and more like Hyundai testing how far its flagship EV's reputation can stretch on style alone.
