From late 2026, every new car in Europe gets a QR-code passport that never forgets

From 29 November 2026, newly type-approved cars in the EU must carry an Environmental Vehicle Passport, a digital dossier of official data accessed by QR code and needing only the car's VIN. Diesel has broken away from petrol in Europe, and it is now the pricier fuel

Diesel has decoupled from petrol across Europe and now costs more, with the EU average around 1.93 euros a litre for diesel against 1.79 for petrol. Expensive refining and tight supply are the main causes, and prices have jumped sharply since June, up about 27 percent in Germany. At the same time, oil is rising again as US-Iran tensions flare around the Strait of Hormuz.

Belgium's car inspection is about to get simpler and far less frequent

From 1 September 2026, Flanders moves its car inspection from once a year to once every two years, aligning Belgium with most of Europe. Paperwork is cut, the insurance certificate is no longer needed at the test, and the window to repair a serious defect grows from 15 days to two months. A planned reform would also scrap the mandatory second-hand inspection for domestic sales.
