FIAT Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback revealed for Europe
06/06/2026
FIAT is not just adding two models, it is trying to become relevant again for families.
For years, the brand has been strongest in small cars. The 500, Panda, 600 and Grande Panda all fit the logic of accessible, compact FIAT mobility. But if you wanted a real family car from FIAT, something with space, practicality and enough presence for modern European buyers, the range became painfully thin. That is why the new FIAT Grizzly and FIAT Grizzly Fastback arrive at exactly the right moment.
The Panda family gets two bigger bears
FIAT’s naming direction suddenly makes more sense. After the Panda and Grande Panda, the brand now adds the Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback. So yes, the bear family is growing. But these new models are not simply larger lifestyle versions of the Panda idea.
They move FIAT into a much more competitive part of the market: compact family crossovers and SUVs. Both models are expected to measure just under 4.5 metres in length. That makes them a significant step up from the current FIAT 600, which is around 33 centimetres shorter.
Smart Car platform, familiar Stellantis logic
The Grizzly family is expected to use Stellantis’ Smart Car platform, the same relatively simple and cost-efficient architecture used by models such as the Grande Panda, Citroën C3 / ë-C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera.
FIAT has not released final technical specifications yet, but based on the platform strategy, we can expect a familiar Stellantis powertrain mix. That could include electric versions around 113 hp, likely with 44 kWh and 54 kWh battery options, plus petrol and mild-hybrid versions around 100 hp and 145 hp.
Design: tougher, but still FIAT
The first official image suggests FIAT wants the Grizzly to look more robust and confident than its smaller models. Modern LED lighting, a stronger stance and SUV-inspired proportions should give it more road presence. But the key will be balance.
FIAT should not try to copy Volkswagen, Peugeot, Kia or Hyundai. The brand works best when it feels clever, approachable and slightly playful. The Grande Panda understood that. It looked modern, but still charming. The Grizzly needs to do the same in a larger format.
AutoNext Take
The Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback come at exactly the right time. FIAT has spent too long being too small, both literally and strategically. The brand still has enormous emotional value in Europe, but emotion alone is not enough when the showroom lacks the kind of cars families actually need.
A compact family SUV under 4.5 metres, with practical space, hybrid and electric options, global scale and a potentially affordable platform, is exactly the kind of product FIAT should be building. But pricing will decide everything.
