Rob's Advice

The Space Star is about as simple as a modern car gets, and for the right buyer that is its biggest strength. It is light and compact, with a small three-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.0 with 71 hp or a 1.2 with 80 hp, so there is very little complicated technology to go wrong and running costs stay low. The 2020 facelift, with the sharper Dynamic Shield nose and a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, is the version to aim for; the 1.2 is the better engine, especially if you leave town now and then, and a CVT was offered on higher trims. The honest compromise is refinement and safety: the three-cylinder gets noisy when worked, the cabin is plastic-heavy and it lacks the latest driver aids of newer city cars. Mitsubishi stopped selling it in Europe around the turn of 2025, as new EU safety rules made small cars expensive to update. Buy one if you want a cheap-to-run, easy-to-park runabout and value simplicity over polish.
