Used Volkswagen Up!

The up! proves that a small car does not have to feel cheap, and since Volkswagen stopped building it in 2023, a used one is the only way to get that feeling. It is tiny outside, surprisingly roomy for four inside and solidly put together, and the facelifted cars from 2016 onwards are the better buy. The 1.0 three-cylinder petrol is perfectly happy in town, the 115 hp up! GTI is a little gem for keen drivers, and the updated e-up! from 2020, with 83 hp and a 32.3 kWh battery, makes a sweet electric runabout. The one version to avoid is the ASG automated manual, which is jerky and slow to shift, so stick with the manual gearbox. Buy one if you want a well-built city car for short trips and tight parking, and rarely carry more than two adults far.
