China-developed Audis are trickling into Europe, just not the way Audi planned

The China-only AUDI E5 Sportback and E7X, from Audi's four-ring-free sub-brand co-developed with SAIC, are being imported to Europe by a third party. The E5 makes 787 pk and the E7X 680 pk, with prices from around 72,000 and 88,000 euros. But their range is quoted on China's optimistic CLTC cycle, and buying outside Audi's official channel raises real support questions.

It holds emissions, consumption, power and range figures, stays available for 20 years, and becomes mandatory for all newly registered cars a year later. It is part of the Euro 7 rules.

Diesel has broken away from petrol in Europe, and it is now the pricier fuel

Diesel has decoupled from petrol across Europe and now costs more, with the EU average around 1.93 euros a litre for diesel against 1.79 for petrol. Expensive refining and tight supply are the main causes, and prices have jumped sharply since June, up about 27 percent in Germany. At the same time, oil is rising again as US-Iran tensions flare around the Strait of Hormuz.
