Romain Dumas wins a third straight Goodwood shootout, with EVs on top

Electric cars took the two fastest times at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed timed shootout. Romain Dumas won for the third year in a row in the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E with a 41.98-second run, ahead of Dan Ticktum's Formula E Gen4 on 42.46 seconds and Alex Summers' 1974 Shadow-Chevrolet DN4 on 46.31 seconds. It was the fastest time of the weekend, though still short of Max Chilton's outright hill record of 39.08 seconds set in the McMurtry Speirling in 2022.

Overfinch reimagines the Holland & Holland Range Rover in black and gold

Overfinch used the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed to reveal a one-of-one Range Rover built with British gunmaker Holland & Holland. It reworks the pair's celebrated Holland & Holland Edition into a more formal, tailored design, trading the traditional green and tan for a deep black exterior with gold accents over a warm ivory and black leather interior, complete with handcrafted moorland marquetry and bespoke bird embroidery. Overfinch has not disclosed the base model, mechanical details or price.

Sixteen years after Joris died of cancer at 27, his parents have restored the 1970 BMW 1602 he always dreamed of rebuilding. The car is now the prize in a charity raffle for Kom op tegen Kanker, run with the cycling programme Vive le Vélo. Anyone can take part by texting Vive Joris to 4342 for one euro, with all proceeds going to the charity, until Sunday 26 July 2026.

Hyundai is now moving company money with stablecoins, a Korean first

Hyundai has become the first major South Korean company to use stablecoins for internal money transfers. Its Hyundai Card division moved $20,000 from Hyundai Motor America to Hyundai Motor Mexico using Tether on the Avalanche blockchain, settling in about seven minutes instead of the usual three to four hours. A second pilot for European subsidiaries, using Circle's USDC and Visa, is planned for later in July 2026.

The Range Rover Electric finally shows itself, but still won't tell us anything

The production-spec Range Rover Electric made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 9 July 2026, shown statically in a dedicated Range Rover gallery. Frustratingly, Land Rover still revealed no power, battery, range, price or on-sale date, with the full global reveal only promised for later in 2026. More than 16,000 people have joined the waiting list for Range Rover's first EV, which will rival the BMW iX and Mercedes G580.

Good news for purists: Aston Martin's V12 will survive until at least 2035

Aston Martin's 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 has been given a stay of execution. CEO Adrian Hallmark says that by keeping V12 sales under 1,000 cars a year, the brand stays exempt from tightening legislation and can keep the engine alive until at least 2035. Aston is also switching from plug-in to 48-volt mild-hybrid power and has pushed its first full EVs back into the 2030s.

Bizzarrini is finally building the 5300 Aperta Lusso, an open-top roadster Giorgetto Giugiaro designed in 1962 but which stayed shelved for over 60 years. Just 10 will be hand-built from 2027, each powered by a 5.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 with more than 400 hp and a manual gearbox. Price is not confirmed, but expect a seven-figure sum.

BYD's Denza Z arrives with 1,582 hp to take the fight to the Porsche 911

BYD's premium Denza brand has fully revealed the Z, an electric sports car aimed at the Porsche 911. A tri-motor setup (one front, two rear) makes 1,582 hp and 1,240 Nm, with three body styles: Coupe, Spider and a GT3-inspired Racing. It uses a 76 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 on an 800-volt system, for up to around 410 km of WLTP range, with Flash Charging said to take 10-70% in about five minutes.
