RUF just built the world's first boxer-eight, a 1,000 hp flat-eight with a manual

Independent German engineering house RUF has revealed the B8, a bespoke twin-turbocharged 4.8-litre flat-eight, or boxer-eight, engine producing more than 1,000 hp and 1,000 Nm, mated to RUF's own six-speed manual. It is the first boxer-eight ever built in this form, a layout even Porsche only ever used in racing. It debuts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in a lengthened, rear-mid-engined CTR3 prototype driven by Tanner Foust, and is set to shape a future RUF model.

The new AMG CLA 45 is a 680 hp electric rocket that pretends to be a petrol car

The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ has gone fully electric, using three axial-flux motors, two rear, one front, for 680 hp of peak power and a 2.7-second 0-100 km/h sprint. On an 800-volt platform it charges at up to 330 kW (10-80 percent in 22 minutes) and offers up to 670 km of WLTP range in the saloon, or 640 km in the new Shooting Brake. It has fully variable all-wheel drive, active aero and an AMGFORCE S+ mode that simulates the sound and gearshifts of a combustion AMG.

Maserati is heading back to GT4 racing with a 700+ hp GranTurismo

Maserati has previewed Project GT4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a GranTurismo-based race car developed by Maserati Corse for the international GT4 category. It uses the 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6 with F1-derived pre-chamber combustion, front-mounted and rear-driven, making over 700 hp in racing form, and it is around 400 kg lighter than the road car. Engineered in Modena, it wears a centennial livery marking 100 years of the Trident and targets a competitive debut in the 2028 season.

The McLaren 788HS is the wildest send-off for one of the great supercar platforms

McLaren has revealed the 788HS, the most extreme and final car built on its long-running 720S platform, debuting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 788 hp and 800 Nm, weighs just 1,265 kg dry for a class-leading 623 hp per tonne, and hits 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds with a 330 km/h top speed. It gets a carbon aero package with 10 percent more downforce than the 765LT and Senna-derived brakes. Just 200 will be built, 100 coupes and 100 Spiders.

The MINI Cooper Oxford Edition is a very British birthday party on wheels

MINI has revealed the Cooper Oxford Edition, a special edition celebrating 25 years of modern MINI production at Plant Oxford, where the first modern MINI was built on 26 April 2001. Based on the petrol Cooper 3-door in C and S forms, it piles on Union Jack detailing: a flag graphic on a white contrast roof, 18-inch two-tone wheels, white mirror caps and flag motifs throughout the cabin. It comes in Indigo Sunset Blue and other colours, priced from around 35,000 euro in Europe.

Adrian Newey's screaming V10 Red Bull RB17 finally runs, and it's a monster

Adrian Newey's Red Bull RB17 track-only hypercar has made its first-ever dynamic run at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, having only been shown as a static model in 2024. It pairs a Cosworth-built 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V10 revving to 15,000 rpm with a 200 hp electric motor for more than 1,200 hp, all in a car weighing under 900 kg. Newey himself drives it at Goodwood, along with Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, Yuki Tsunoda and Alisha Palmowski. Just 50 will be built at around 5 million pounds each.

Lamborghini has launched an official app for the Apple Vision Pro that places full-scale, high-fidelity digital cars in your space using spatial computing. It features the Temerario, Revuelto, Urus SE and the new Urus SE Performante, letting you view them at 1:1 scale or inside curated digital environments, complete with spatial audio engine notes and the ability to peer beneath the bodywork at aerodynamics and structure. Controlled by eye and hand, it is available now on the App Store and launched on 7 July 2026.

The Zenvo Aurora packs the most powerful production V12 ever, and 1,850 hp in total

Danish hypercar maker Zenvo has revealed the production Aurora at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is built around a 6.6-litre quad-turbo V12, developed with MAHLE Powertrain, that targets 1,250 hp and revs to 9,800 rpm, which Zenvo calls the most powerful V12 ever fitted to a production car. Combined with three electric motors, total output reaches up to 1,850 hp depending on the variant. It comes as the grand-touring Tur and track-focused Agil, is built in Praesto, Denmark, and deliveries start in summer 2027.

Polestar is finally giving the Polestar 4 something it lacked: a rear window

Polestar is teasing a new variant of the Polestar 4 that adds an actual rear window, addressing the original's much-discussed decision to drop the rear glass in favour of a camera-fed digital mirror. The new version gets a straighter rear hatch with a window, making it easier to park, and spotters say it looks more like a wagon than an SUV. It keeps the 400-volt platform with single rear-motor or all-wheel-drive options. A full reveal is still to come.
