Audi has no combustion end date, and Döllner explains it by segment

Audi has abandoned any fixed date for ending combustion engines, and chief executive Gernot Döllner says the reason is a gradient in the price list: the more expensive the car, the more buyers still choose an engine. Audi's own recent history says the same. It closed the factory that built the Q8 e-tron in February 2025, and the model leading its launch plan now is the cheapest EV it sells.

Williams returns to Madrid in the colours of its 1981 champion

Williams will run a special one-off livery at the Spanish Grand Prix, the first Formula 1 race at Madrid's new Madring circuit, reviving the white, green and navy blue of its 1981 championship-winning FW07C. Both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon will carry it, and for Sainz it doubles as a home race in his birth city. It is heritage marketing, but the kind Williams has actually earned.

The penalty does not: Spain asks €200, halved for prompt payment, where Germany adds two licence points and a month off the road.

Driverless racing came to Europe, and the robots still crashed

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) has held the first multi-car driverless race ever staged in Europe, running five fully autonomous single-seaters at Imola on 5 September. UAE team Kinetiz won after the two fastest cars collided, while two-time champions TUM were eliminated on the formation lap. It was messy, and that is exactly the point.

Horse's B20 engine keeps running 1.1 metres underwater, deeper than a Defender

Horse Powertrain has revealed the B20, a 130 kg 2.0-litre turbo sealed to the IPX8 standard and rated to keep running under 1.1 metres of water. It makes 190 to 252 hp and reaches 48.4 percent thermal efficiency. Its only application so far, the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700, is homologated to wade 800 mm, because wading depth is set by the vehicle rather than the engine.
