McLaren built 500 Sennas and painted exactly three like this one

This week's Car of the Week is a 2018 McLaren Senna, one of just three finished in MSO's Fina tribute livery, available at Car Collection Sales with only 4,800 km. Chassis 027 pays homage to the Fina McLaren F1 GTR that raced at Le Mans, which turns an already extreme hypercar into a genuine piece of McLaren history. This is about as special as a modern McLaren gets.

A rolling tribute to Le Mans 1997

McLaren Special Operations painted just three Sennas in the blue, white and red Fina colours, a direct nod to the Fina-backed McLaren F1 GTR that raced at Le Mans in 1997. On the Senna, that livery lands somewhere between a race car and a piece of art, and it ties a modern track weapon straight back to McLaren's golden era of endurance racing. This is chassis 027, one of those three, and there will never be more.

800 hp and barely more than a tonne

Underneath the livery sits the most single-minded road car McLaren had built to that point. A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sends 800 hp to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, in a car that weighs around 1,198 kg dry. Add active aerodynamics, carbon ceramic brakes, Pirelli Trofeo R tyres and a carbon tub, and you have a hypercar built to chase lap times first and comfort a distant second. The Senna does not flatter you. It makes you better, or it frightens you honestly.

Delivered new, barely driven, always McLaren-serviced

Chassis 027 has covered just 4,800 km, it has been serviced throughout by McLaren in Lugano and Monaco, it has never been repainted and never been crashed. It carries the options that matter, including the vehicle lift that makes it useable, the Bowers & Wilkins audio, track telemetry and ultra-lightweight wheels. For a car this rare, condition and history are everything, and here both are exactly as a collector would want.

AutoNext Take

The Senna was already the most focused road car McLaren had ever built, a street-legal track weapon with 800 hp and almost no interest in comfort. Wrapping one in the Fina colours of the 1997 Le Mans F1 GTR is the kind of idea that keeps collectors awake at night. This is not just a fast McLaren, it is a direct line back to the brand's greatest racing chapter, and only two others like it exist.

At €1,520,000 it is priced as the blue-chip collector piece it is: 4,800 km, an unbroken McLaren service history and paint that has never been touched. Some cars are an indulgence. This one is a trophy, and if we had the means we would not think twice.

Lanzante's 95-59 gets the wing McLaren fitted to only eight F1s

Lanzante shows the first renderings of the High Downforce Kit for its 95-59, the three-seat, 850 hp tribute to the McLaren F1 that won Le Mans in 1995. The option adds a fixed carbon wing and roof scoop, echoing a kit McLaren fitted to just eight F1 road cars, and is open to all 59 buyers.

Nick Mason is selling his pop-art McLaren F1 GTR, and it could be the priciest McLaren ever

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is selling his 1996 McLaren F1 GTR, chassis 10R, at RM Sotheby's Monterey sale with an estimate above 35 million dollars, which would make it the most expensive McLaren ever sold. It is the first F1 GTR built to 1996 specification, one of only two short-tail prototypes, and the only one wearing a factory pop-art livery. Mason has owned it since 1999, when McLaren converted it for the road.
