The super SUV that started the craze is about to get sharper teeth

Lamborghini's super SUV is about to get angrier. The brand has teased a new Urus SE Performante, a more hardcore version of its plug-in hybrid super SUV, hinting at carbon aero, a sharper chassis and a little more power on top of the SE's already mighty 789 hp.

What the teaser shows

Posted on Lamborghini's social channels, the teaser image points clearly at a more aggressive Urus. The standout detail is an extended carbon gurney flap at the rear, joined by a carbon roof spoiler. Expect a more aggressive front bumper, a reworked rear and a new wheel design too. Inside, the cabin looks largely carried over, with the changes most likely to be incremental tech rather than a full redesign.

What we expect underneath

The Performante badge has always meant a sharper, more focused Lamborghini, and the same should apply here. The starting point is the Urus SE, the plug-in hybrid that pairs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for a combined 789 hp and 950 Nm. The Performante is expected to add a small power increase on top, along with a retuned suspension setup and a generally sharper, sportier character. Lighter carbon parts should help trim weight and tighten the responses.

Still just a teaser

It is worth being clear that this is a teaser, not a full reveal. Lamborghini has not yet confirmed final power figures, performance numbers or pricing, so the specifics above are expectations based on the teaser and the existing Urus SE rather than confirmed facts. A complete unveiling is expected soon, at which point the real numbers will land.

AutoNext Take

The original Urus Performante was one of the few super SUVs that genuinely felt like a Lamborghini to drive rather than a fast tower block, so a plug-in hybrid version sharpening that recipe is a tempting prospect. The question is whether the extra weight of the SE's battery and motor can be tamed enough to keep that hardcore feel intact. If Lamborghini can make a near-800 hp hybrid Urus turn and stop like the combustion Performante did, it will have pulled off something clever. The teaser looks promising. Now we want to see the numbers.
