Milltek's widebody kit makes the Alpine A290 look like a mini Renault 5 Turbo
An exhaust legend finds a clever new trick for the EV age
We already think the Alpine A290 is one of the coolest small EVs around, so this has our full attention. Milltek Sport, a brand that made its name building exhausts, has revealed a widebody kit that turns the A290, and its Renault 5 twin, into a pumped-up homage to the iconic Renault 5 Turbo. And it has arrived in the smartest way possible.
What's in the kit
Milltek describes it as a complete visual package built around the factory bodyline: wider, lower and more purposeful, without losing the character of the car. It comprises an extended arch package with fender flares front and rear, aluminium side skirts, a roof spoiler for balance, a sharper front light signature with new DRLs, and even a modified charging-port cover. Finished here on Rotiform wheels with aerodiscs, the little Alpine suddenly looks like a proper baby Renault 5 Turbo.
The clever part: it's fully reversible
Here is the genuinely smart bit. The entire kit is fully reversible, fitting without adhesive residue or permanent bodywork changes. As Milltek points out, that means you can simply remove it before selling the car, since a standard example usually sells more easily, and pass the kit on separately. Since the A290 and Renault 5 share identical bodywork, the same kit fits both.
Looks only, and still in development
To be clear, this is purely a visual upgrade: there are no power or performance changes. It is also an aftermarket project rather than an official Alpine collaboration, and it is still in the prototype phase, having been previewed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026. Milltek is registering interest and gauging demand before committing to production, at an intended price of around 2,500 euro.
AutoNext Take
We love this on two levels. First, the A290 is already a brilliant, characterful little EV, as the wild Lacoste edition proved, and a tasteful Renault 5 Turbo-style widebody suits it perfectly. Second, there is something quietly clever about an exhaust specialist reinventing itself for an electric world where there are no exhausts to sell. Turning to styling, and doing it in a reversible, resale-friendly way, is exactly the kind of smart pivot the aftermarket needs.
The only catch is that it is still just a concept for now, so whether it reaches production depends on how many people register their interest. If enough enthusiasts feel the same way we do, this could become one of the coolest ways to personalise an A290 or Renault 5. Here is hoping Milltek pushes the button.
