Van Mossel enters Poland with Auto Idea acquisition
22/05/2026
Van Mossel Automotive Group is entering Poland.
The Dutch automotive retail group has announced the proposed acquisition of Auto Idea, one of Poland’s major Mercedes-Benz dealer groups. If approved, the deal will mark Van Mossel’s first move into the Polish market and expand its international footprint to eight countries.
It is another sign that European automotive retail is moving quickly toward larger, cross-border groups with stronger scale, more brand coverage and deeper operational infrastructure.
Auto Idea: Mercedes-Benz, four locations and €235 million revenue
Auto Idea operates from four locations in Poland, with sites in Białystok, Olsztyn and Warsaw, including two Warsaw locations in Łomianki and Artyleryjska.
The company represents Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and commercial vehicles and generated around €235 million in revenue in 2025. During that year, Auto Idea sold approximately 3,000 new vehicles and 570 used vehicles, supported by around 350 employees.
Van Mossel is not starting from zero in Poland. It is entering with an established Mercedes-Benz organisation, a strong local footprint and a premium brand partner.
Poland becomes Van Mossel’s eighth market
For Van Mossel, Poland becomes the eighth country in its European network. The group is already one of the most important dealer groups in the Benelux and has been expanding internationally with clear ambition. The Polish move fits that pattern perfectly: a growing economy, a large car market, rising mobility demand and a premium dealer business with room for further professionalisation.
CEO Eric Berkhof describes the move as the next step in building out Van Mossel’s European network, highlighting Auto Idea’s solid market position and focus on quality and service. The transaction still requires approval from the competition authorities, with completion expected around the end of June 2026, subject to approval.
Auto Idea keeps its existing structure
An important detail: Auto Idea’s current organisation will remain in place. That matters in dealer acquisitions. Local knowledge, customer relationships and manufacturer trust are not things you can simply replace with a new logo. Van Mossel appears to be taking the pragmatic route: keep the existing structure, preserve operational continuity and use the group’s scale to support further growth.
Auto Idea chairman Bogusław Kowalski said the company had been looking for a strategic automotive investor with a strong European position to secure its next growth phase. According to him, Van Mossel shares the same core values, especially around customer needs and customer satisfaction.
Correlation: Van Mossel is building serious European scale
This story connects directly with our recent AutoNext article about Van Mossel acquiring the Porsche Centres in Perth and Aberdeen from Peter Vardy Group in Scotland.
That deal strengthened Van Mossel’s position in the UK premium automotive market. This new Polish acquisition does something different: it opens an entirely new country and gives Van Mossel access to one of Central Europe’s most important growth markets.
Van Mossel is no longer just expanding in familiar territory. It is actively building a broader European platform.
AutoNext Take
This is another smart move from Van Mossel. Poland is not just “another country” on the map. It is a large, growing and strategically important market. Entering it through an established Mercedes-Benz dealer group with €235 million in annual revenue, four locations and 350 employees gives Van Mossel immediate credibility.
For Auto Idea, the deal also makes sense. The Polish market is competitive, investment-heavy and evolving quickly. Joining a larger European group can give it more strength for the next phase.
