Volvo EX60 demand explodes: production ramp-up already underway
19/03/2026
Volvo is already increasing production of its all-new EX60.
Because in today’s EV market, where uncertainty is growing and several brands are slowing down, Volvo is facing the exact opposite problem: Demand is outpacing expectations.
A strong start, stronger than expected
The numbers are clear. In less than a month:
Over 3,000 orders in Sweden alone
Strong demand across key markets like Germany
Order intake exceeding internal forecasts across Europe
And perhaps most telling: The EX60 is currently only available to order in Europe. The US hasn’t even opened order books yet. Which means this is just the beginning. Even more impressive, Volvo confirms that early demand is outperforming the EX30, a smaller and more affordable SUV that was expected to dominate in volume.
Volvo’s smart positioning pays off
So why is the EX60 hitting so hard? Because Volvo understood something many others are struggling with right now. Instead of chasing extremes (ultra-cheap EVs or ultra-high-end flagships) the EX60 sits exactly where the market is strongest:
Mid-size SUV
Premium positioning
Price aligned with the successful XC60 plug-in hybrid
In other words: It replaces something people already trust, instead of forcing something new. Add to that:
Competitive range
Fast charging (Volvo claims “coffee-break charging”)
A simplified ownership model with bundled home charging
And you get a product that feels… easy. And right now, “easy EV adoption” is what wins.
Production scaling but carefully
Despite the strong demand, Volvo isn’t rushing blindly. Production at the Torslanda plant in Sweden will increase but in a controlled way, with a clear focus on quality.
Still, the situation is exceptional. Volvo is even in discussions with labour unions to extend production into the summer period, something that has never happened before in the company’s history. That alone says enough.
AutoNext Take
The EX60 might quietly become one of the most important EVs in Europe. Not because it’s revolutionary. But because it’s exactly what the market needs right now. Where others overcomplicate, Volvo simplifies. Where others chase volume at any cost, Volvo focuses on value.
And that’s the key insight: The EV transition isn’t just about technology anymore. It’s about product-market fit. If this momentum continues when the US market opens, this could become a defining model for Volvo’s electric future. And maybe even a benchmark for the industry.
