New 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLB
The electric family hero is back. Bigger, smarter and impressively practical.
The Mercedes GLB has always been a bit like the Swiss army knife of SUVs. Compact enough to dive into a city without stress, yet spacious enough to take half your household and the dog with you. And now there is the completely new 2026 generation. More technology, more comfort, more range and even more seats. Mercedes calls it an everyday hero. Well, that comes pretty close.
Technology and performance
At launch, the GLB arrives as two fully electric models: the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4MATIC. Both get a large 85 kWh battery and an 800 volt system that is fully ready for fast charging. Result: up to 260 kilometers added in ten minutes. Before your coffee gets cold, you are back on the road.
Specifications
GLB 250+
272 hp and 335 Nm
0 to 100 in 7.4 s
Range up to 631 km
Rear wheel drive
GLB 350 4MATIC
354 hp and 515 Nm
0 to 100 in 5.5 s
Range up to 614 km
All wheel drive with smart Disconnect Unit
The electric motors are more efficient, quieter and stronger than before. The two speed transmission on the rear axle provides smooth takeoff at low speed but also relaxed cruising on the motorway. The 4MATIC version gets an extra motor at the front that only activates when needed. Convenient and efficient.
Other versions will follow soon, including an entry model and a series of hybrid variants.
Practical and daily use
This is where the GLB truly makes a difference. This is a car designed with real families in mind, including chaos, groceries, sports clubs and last minute plans.
Space and comfort
5 or 7 seats
More legroom in the back thanks to a 60 mm longer wheelbase
Easier access to the third row
Four child seats possible at the same time
Standard panoramic roof for a spacious feel
The frunk now offers 127 liters of space. Perfect for items you do not want to put in the main trunk. The trunk itself goes up to 540 liters, and with all seats down up to 1715 liters. The second row can slide, giving you either more trunk space or more passenger space. It does not get more flexible than that.
Comfort while driving
The new heat pump warms the interior twice as fast in freezing temperatures and uses only half the energy of the one in the previous GLB. Even during extreme cold tests, the windshield was fully defrosted within fifteen minutes.
Also nice: the VISION CONTROL wipers spray water directly in front of the blade, so your view never disappears completely for a moment.
Proper SUV
The GLB is a real SUV that dares to go beyond asphalt.
TERRAIN MODE for gravel or grass tracks
Transparent bonnet function to see the ground virtually
Up to 2 tons towing capacity, ideal for caravans or bike carriers with e bikes
Design and interior
On the outside? Tough, modern and full of character. The grille with 94 illuminated stars is a real eye catcher, and the whole car looks wider and more confident. The proportions are more muscular and the finish is typically Mercedes.
Inside, the MBUX Superscreen steals the show. The continuous glass panel combines the instrument cluster, the central display and optionally even a display for the passenger. It runs on the new MB.OS system and includes an AI Assistant that uses various models from Google and Microsoft. Everything feels faster, more intuitive and more refined. The Assistant’s sense of humor is unfortunately still as corny as before.
On top of that, there is the optional glass roof with an illuminated star pattern. Completely unnecessary but secretly delightful.
A grown up model
The new GLB finally feels like the mature electric SUV Mercedes has been wanting to build for a long time. It is quieter, much more efficient and offers a lot more space. Larger families in particular will love this if they want something premium. The car is clearly built around ease of use without becoming boring.
Strengths
The longest range in its class
Top fast charging performance
A lot of interior space
MBUX Superscreen is impressive
Official towing capacity makes a real difference in the EV world
Weaknesses
We still have to wait for the price
The third row is still mainly for children unless you amputate an adult's legs
The ultimate family car?
The 2026 Mercedes Benz GLB may well be the most useful electric SUV for families in its segment. It has a long range, charges quickly, is spacious, comfortable and technologically very strong. If you are looking for an EV that can do more than commuting or grocery runs, this is the one.
