Buy the X5 M if you want every bit of the M SUV madness but refuse to trade a square, usable boot for a fashion statement. It packs the same monster twin-turbo V8 and all-wheel-drive grip as the X6 M, yet keeps a shape that owns up to being a proper big family car. That is what makes it the one I would actually live with, because it shrugs off the school run and a favourite back road with the same straight face. Of the M SUVs, this is the one that makes the most sense.
