The SEALION 5 DM-i is BYD's most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV, priced from around €30,000 in Europe. Up to 85 km of electric range covers most commutes and the petrol engine handles the rest, for a combined figure past 1,000 km. The compromise is refinement: this is built to a price, and you notice it in the cabin materials and in how the powertrain sounds when you work it. Buy it if you want plug-in hybrid running costs without paying the usual plug-in hybrid premium.
