Dodge began as a parts supplier. John and Horace Dodge were Detroit machinists who built engines and chassis for Henry Ford before putting their own name on a car in 1914, and their reputation for toughness made Dodge one of America's biggest makers within a few years. Both brothers died in 1920, and Chrysler bought the company in 1928.

The name that defines Dodge arrived in 1966: the Charger, followed by the Challenger in 1970 and the Viper in 1992. Muscle cars, Hemi V8s and outsized horsepower became the brand's whole identity, and it kept building them long after most rivals had moved on. Dodge sold cars in Europe in the 2000s, then withdrew after Fiat took over Chrysler.

Now part of Stellantis, Dodge returns to Europe in the Charger's 60th year. Importer KW Automotive sells the eighth-generation Charger as a two-door or four-door, either as the electric Daytona or the petrol Sixpack with a twin-turbo straight six. There is no V8 this time, but the badge still promises the same thing: a big American car with more power than it strictly needs.
