The car itself starts here. In 1886 Carl Benz patented the Motorwagen, the first automobile, while Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were fitting engines to carriages a hundred kilometres away. Their companies merged in 1926, and the three-pointed star has stood for the invention of the automobile ever since.

Mercedes-Benz built its reputation on being first with the things that matter: the crumple zone, ABS, the airbag as standard, ESP. The 300 SL Gullwing, the W123, the G-Class and the S-Class each became a benchmark in its own way, and AMG turned the same engineering into some of the most charismatic performance cars on sale.

Today the range runs from the CLA and the compact family to the electric EQ generation, the new CLA on the MMA platform and the flagship S-Class, with AMG, Maybach and the G-Class as its three halo lines. The promise remains the one Gottlieb Daimler wrote down: the best or nothing.
