Alfa Romeo takes Luna Rossa from ten Giulias to its whole range
Ten Giulia Quadrifoglios started the Luna Rossa deal, and now every Alfa Romeo gets one
Alfa Romeo has unveiled the Edizione Luna Rossa in the Gulf of Naples, a special series that covers all four models it sells: the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio. The launch came at the second preliminary regatta of the 2027 America's Cup, held in Naples from 24 to 27 September. Italy opened orders on 25 September, and the rest of Europe follows market by market.
Alfa Romeo Edizione Luna Rossa tops the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio ranges
The Edizione Luna Rossa sits at the top of each model's range and shares one visual language: a red Alfa Romeo badge, a palette of white, black, grey and red taken from the Luna Rossa boats, and the team's logo on all four cars. Italian list prices start at €37,800 for the Junior, €48,950 for the Tonale, €71,250 for the Giulia and €73,350 for the Stelvio. It follows the ten-car Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa shown in Brussels in January, every one of which sold before the reveal.
Junior and Tonale Luna Rossa get a new grey and Stellantis' first 3D Knit seats
The Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa wear a new grey inspired by the crew's flotation vests, crossed by a red Luna Rossa line along the flanks, with gloss black trim and 18-inch wheels on the Junior or 20-inch wheels on the Tonale that no other version gets. The seats use 3D Knit fabric, woven from a continuous thread with less waste, a first inside Stellantis. The Junior comes as a 145 hp hybrid or a 156 hp electric car with a 54 kWh battery. The Tonale covers every engine, from a 130 hp diesel to the 270 hp plug-in hybrid Q4.
Giulia and Stelvio Luna Rossa pair carbon trim with the 2.2 diesel in Italy
The Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa take the more expensive route: a carbon grille shield and carbon mirror caps with the Luna Rossa logo, dark 19-inch wheels on the Giulia and 21-inch wheels on the Stelvio, and red brake calipers. The Giulia also borrows the Quadrifoglio's side skirts and spoiler. Inside, leather is paired with ECONYL, a nylon partly recycled from fishing nets, and carbon inserts. In Italy both use the 2.2 turbodiesel with 160 or 210 hp and an eight-speed automatic. Under Stellantis' current plan, both models continue through 2027 before the D-segment is reworked.
Alfa Romeo engineers help write Luna Rossa's sail-control software
Alfa Romeo's contribution to Luna Rossa goes beyond the badge. The partnership began in June 2025, and Alfa's engineers have given the team the simulator expertise and vehicle-dynamics tools developed for its road cars. They are working on the control software for the circuits that move the sails on Luna Rossa's AC40 boats, which is tested in the simulator before the crew takes it onto the water. Alfa Romeo is an official sponsor, but the technical exchange is the part the brand stresses most.
Luna Rossa has reached the America's Cup match twice and lost both to New Zealand
Luna Rossa, backed by Prada and Pirelli, has chased the America's Cup since 2000 and has never won it. The team reached the match itself in 2000 and in 2021, and lost both times to Emirates Team New Zealand, the last time 7-3. In Barcelona in 2024 it fell in the challenger final to INEOS Britannia. The 38th edition, in Naples in 2027, will be the first America's Cup held in Italy, and Luna Rossa won the first preliminary regatta in Sardinia in May.
AutoNext Take
Alfa Romeo has chosen the right partner and the right moment. A brand whose sales fell 21 percent in the first half of 2026 has no new production model to launch this year, only a concept in Paris on 12 October, and a special series across the whole range gives every showroom something new to sell in the meantime. Luna Rossa also brings what most sponsorship deals lack: real engineering work, in software that sets sails on a racing boat, which makes the badge more than a sticker.
The Junior will carry this edition just as it carries the brand, and it is where most Luna Rossa cars will be sold by the time the America's Cup match starts in Naples in 2027. If Luna Rossa finally beats New Zealand on home water, Alfa Romeo will own the most valuable red logo in Italian sport outside Maranello for a summer, and the €37,800 Junior will be the cheapest way to wear it.
