First look: BMW i3 Neue Klasse accidentally leaks ahead of official reveal
16/03/2026
BMW accidentally leaked the design of its upcoming BMW i3 Neue Klasse ahead of its official debut.
The images surfaced thanks to a scheduled YouTube presentation that briefly revealed the model’s thumbnail before the livestream was removed. But by then, screenshots had already spread across the internet, giving enthusiasts an early glimpse of what could be the most important BMW of the next decade.
A familiar BMW, but clearly futuristic
Based on the leaked image, the new BMW i3 Neue Klasse retains the essential proportions of a classic BMW sedan. Long hood, clean surfaces and a sporty stance remain intact, something that will likely reassure traditional BMW fans who feared overly radical design changes.
At the same time, the design language clearly follows the styling introduced by the Neue Klasse concepts:
ultra-clean body surfaces
minimalist detailing
a distinctive new light signature similar to the upcoming iX3
The result appears to be a modern interpretation of the classic BMW sports sedan formula.
The reveal was supposed to happen on Wednesday
The leak happened because BMW had already scheduled a livestream presentation titled “The new design language of the Neue Klasse.”
The event was meant to take place on March 18 at 11:30, but YouTube automatically displayed the video thumbnail before the presentation went live. That image showed the new i3 Neue Klasse, effectively revealing the design ahead of schedule.
BMW quickly removed the livestream from the platform, but the damage was already done. Screenshots spread rapidly across automotive media and social platforms.
AutoNext Take
The BMW 3 Series has always been the brand’s benchmark model, the car that defines what a BMW driving experience should feel like. Translating that DNA into the electric era will be one of BMW’s biggest challenges.
If BMW manages to deliver a true electric sports sedan that still feels like a 3 Series, the Neue Klasse platform could become one of the most important turning points in the brand’s modern history. And judging by the first leaked image, BMW seems determined to keep that classic sports sedan spirit alive, even in the electric age.
