Formula E is heading to Brands Hatch and Zandvoort with faster, 815 hp cars
Real circuits, more power, and a round on our doorstep
Formula E is about to get a lot more interesting for European fans. The all-electric championship has confirmed its biggest calendar yet for the 2027 season, headlined by the London E-Prix moving to the legendary Brands Hatch and a brand-new round at the Netherlands' Zandvoort circuit. For once, the electric series is racing on proper, fast permanent tracks rather than just tight street circuits.
Brands Hatch makes history
The headline is Brands Hatch. Formula E will host the London E-Prix at the famous Kent circuit on 29 and 30 May 2027, the venue's first FIA World Championship event since the World Touring Car Championship visited in 2010. It is part of a remarkable year for British motorsport: in 2027 the UK will host rounds of every major FIA World Championship, with Formula 1, the WEC and the WRC all joined by Formula E. With British champions Oliver Rowland and Jake Dennis on the grid, a home race at a circuit this loved should be special.
And a new round at Zandvoort
Closer to home for our readers, Formula E is also adding a brand-new round at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, scheduled for 18 and 19 June 2027. Bringing the electric championship to one of the most atmospheric circuits in the region, fresh from its recent Formula 1 success, is a genuine coup and gives Dutch and Belgian fans a major electric racing weekend within easy reach. Circuit of The Americas in Austin also joins the calendar as a third new venue.
Faster cars, new format
The timing is perfect, because 2027 also brings the new Gen4 car. It produces a hefty 815 hp, adds active all-wheel drive and uses fully recyclable or reusable construction, a big step up in performance over the current machines. To suit the faster cars, Formula E is introducing a new sprint-style race called E-Prix Unleashed, a 30-minute dash that showcases the Gen4's unrestricted power during double-header weekends. Opel also joins the grid as a new manufacturer.
A record season
All told, the 2027 season spans a record 21 races across 13 cities, running from a season opener in Jeddah on 18-19 December 2026 to a finale in Tokyo on 24-25 July 2027. The races are grouped by continent to cut freight and emissions. Championship co-founder Alberto Longo summed it up: "We are incredibly proud to unveil our biggest and most ambitious calendar to date."
AutoNext Take
Formula E has spent years being judged on tight street circuits and modest power, so a calendar with Brands Hatch, Zandvoort and COTA plus an 815 hp Gen4 car feels like the series finally backing itself. Real tracks reward real racing, and these cars now have the performance to deserve them. The Zandvoort round is the one we are most excited about, because a proper electric race within driving distance is a treat for fans here. If the Gen4 era delivers on this calendar, Formula E might finally win over the doubters. We will be watching from the Zandvoort dunes.
