Jaguar’s radical electric rebirth: first interior details of the Type 00
07/04/2026
Sometimes a manufacturer must reinvent itself completely.
That is exactly what Jaguar is attempting right now. After years of declining sales and an uncertain identity in the premium market, the British brand is preparing one of the most radical transformations in its history. At the center of that transformation sits the Jaguar Type 00, an all-electric grand tourer that is expected to define Jaguar’s future.
A Jaguar unlike any before it
The Type 00 concept signals a dramatic shift in philosophy. Jaguar has committed to becoming a fully electric luxury brand, but electrification is only one part of the story. The design language is changing. The positioning is moving further upmarket. And even the brand identity itself is evolving.
At first, Jaguar’s communication around this new era felt almost confrontational toward its own past. The historic DNA that once defined models like the Jaguar E-Type or the Jaguar XJ seemed to be deliberately ignored.
More recently, however, the brand’s messaging has shifted slightly. Jaguar is once again embracing elements of its heritage in its storytelling (referencing classic grand tourers and elegant proportions) even if the cars themselves move in an entirely new direction.
A minimalist interior with an almost architectural approach
Through early access provided to lifestyle publication Sidewalk Hustle, we now get the first glimpse of the prototype interior. If you were expecting the traditional Jaguar atmosphere (warm leather, wood veneers and classic craftsmanship) you may need to recalibrate your expectations. The Type 00’s interior appears radically minimalistic, almost architectural in its execution.
The steering wheel immediately draws attention. Instead of a conventional design, it features two thick spokes forming a horizontal bar, combined with a third, slimmer spoke beneath. The upper bar houses a series of touch-style controls integrated into a smooth surface, reinforcing the futuristic aesthetic.
At the center of the wheel sits a dark panel (temporarily covered with tape) that almost certainly hides Jaguar’s upcoming logo. Beneath it, the ribbed airbag housing sits unusually low within the wheel structure, giving the entire unit a distinctive visual balance.
Behind the wheel are the traditional control stalks, yet even these appear unconventional. They are positioned noticeably higher than usual and seem to be integrated around the driver monitoring camera, which likely uses infrared technology. The left stalk manages lighting, indicators and wipers, while the right acts as the PRND gear selector, another sign that Jaguar is moving away from traditional interior layouts.
Beyond the steering wheel sits a large digital display. Interestingly, early images suggest that it may not be accompanied by a secondary touchscreen at the same level, hinting at a potentially simplified dashboard architecture. But until Jaguar officially reveals the production version later this year, many details remain deliberately hidden.
AutoNext Take
There are two possible outcomes for the Type 00. Either it becomes the car that successfully reinvents Jaguar for the electric age, or it becomes a cautionary tale about abandoning too much heritage too quickly. The truth will likely lie somewhere in between.
But if Jaguar wants to survive (let alone thrive) in the next decade of electrification, playing it safe may no longer be an option. And the Type 00 proves that Jaguar has no intention of playing safe.
