Lucid Gravity wins 2026 World Luxury Car of the Year. A new benchmark for Luxury SUVs?
04/04/2026
Luxury in the electric era is being redefined.
A electrification reshapes the industry, a new generation of vehicles is emerging, combining advanced software platforms, cutting-edge efficiency and unprecedented interior space. The latest example comes from Lucid Motors, whose flagship SUV, the Lucid Gravity, has been named World Luxury Car of the Year 2026 at the prestigious World Car Awards.
A new vision of the luxury SUV
The Lucid Gravity was developed on an entirely new platform designed specifically for a high-performance electric SUV. Rather than simply adapting an existing architecture, Lucid engineered the vehicle from the ground up to combine SUV practicality with sports-car-like dynamics.
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system forms the basis of the powertrain, delivering strong performance while maintaining the smoothness expected from a modern luxury vehicle. To further enhance driving dynamics, the Gravity features standard adaptive air suspension, ensuring comfort on highways, rough roads and even light off-road terrain.
An optional rear-axle steering system adds another layer of sophistication. At higher speeds it improves stability and cornering precision, while at low speeds it significantly reduces the turning circle, making the large SUV easier to maneuver in dense urban environments.
Full-size space within a mid-size footprint
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Gravity is how Lucid has approached packaging. The SUV delivers the interior space of a full-size vehicle while maintaining the footprint of a mid-size SUV, a balance made possible by the company’s highly compact electric powertrain.
Inside, the Gravity offers seating for up to seven adults across three rows, with generous legroom even in the third row, an area where many competitors still compromise. The sliding second-row seats further increase flexibility, while optional integrated convenience tables elevate the rear passenger experience, reflecting Lucid’s ambition to blend practicality with genuine luxury.
Range and ultra-fast charging
Efficiency remains one of Lucid’s strongest engineering advantages. The Gravity benefits from the brand’s miniaturized high-efficiency powertrain, allowing the SUV to achieve an estimated 725 km of EPA driving range.
Equally important is its charging capability. With high-power DC fast charging, the Gravity can add roughly 320 km of range in less than 11 minutes, making long-distance travel significantly more convenient.
AutoNext Take
Traditional luxury once revolved around materials, craftsmanship and engine refinement. In the electric era, those elements are still important, but they are increasingly complemented (or even replaced) by technology, efficiency and spatial design. The Lucid Gravity perfectly illustrates that shift.
Instead of focusing on sheer size or cylinder count, Lucid has concentrated on efficiency, packaging and digital architecture. The result is an SUV that offers the interior space of a full-size vehicle, the performance of a sports car and the charging capabilities required for modern electric mobility.
