Praga's Bohema beat a Spa lap record

Praga Bohema Spa lap record: the hypercar reportedly beat the 2020 benchmark set by the Pagani Huayra BC Roadster, though Praga has not confirmed a time.

The Bohema reportedly beat the existing Spa-Francorchamps lap record. Praga is not saying by how much, yet.

Praga posted a deliberately vague teaser from Spa-Francorchamps on Instagram, showing the Bohema and its team celebrating trackside. AutoNext understands from sources at the event that the lap beat the existing benchmark, though we are not publishing the exact time until Praga confirms it officially.

What Praga has actually said

The post itself gives almost nothing away. Posted to the brand's verified account roughly a day ago, the caption reads in full: “Something happened at Spa. One Praga Bohema. One legendary circuit. One lap we won't forget.” No time, no named rival, and no explicit use of the word “record” anywhere in it, just a photo of a visibly delighted team gathered around the car in the pit lane.

The record it is chasing has stood since 2020

Pagani's Huayra BC Roadster has held the outright production car lap record at Spa-Francorchamps since 2020, a 2:23.08 set during the car's final validation testing on a track that was damp in places, including a top speed of 318km/h down the Kemmel straight. That lap itself beat a previous record of 2:24.82, set roughly eighteen months earlier by a McLaren Senna. Five years on, it remains the benchmark every serious challenger, including the Bohema, has to answer to.

This fits an established pattern

The Bohema has spent the past year touring circuits and setting exactly this kind of benchmark. At Dunsfold, the former Top Gear test track, it lapped in 1:09.8 to become the fastest pure-combustion production car around that circuit, quicker than a Ferrari SF90 Stradale's 1:11.3 and beaten only by a Koenigsegg Jesko Attack and an Aston Martin Valkyrie. At Autodrom Most it beat the existing record by 4.8 seconds, in the process beating a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. At Automotordrom Brno it went 7.1 seconds quicker than the previous road-car benchmark, and at the Slovakia Ring, 6.4 seconds quicker. Spa reads as the next stop on the same campaign.

Why Spa raises the stakes

Spa-Francorchamps is a different challenge entirely from the shorter, tighter circuits the Bohema has already conquered, long, fast and genuinely punishing in a way that exposes weak aerodynamics and tired brakes. The Bohema's case for punching above its class rests on a specific formula: a Litchfield-tuned, Nissan-derived 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 producing around 700hp, a kerb weight under 1,000kg, and road-legal tyres rather than track-only rubber. That combination is exactly why it keeps beating cars with more power and higher price tags.

AutoNext Take

Praga has earned the right to tease. A brand with this many genuine benchmark laps behind it does not need to shout the number immediately, the pattern alone tells you roughly what happened. We would rather wait a few days and let Praga have its moment than turn a source's tip into someone else's announcement.

What is worth watching is whether Spa becomes the lap this car is remembered for. Dunsfold made headlines because it is famous. Spa would matter because it is a record that has stood for five years, the same kind of long-standing benchmark the Ariel Atom made headlines for beating on a very different kind of circuit.

A 668 kg Ariel Atom just battered a Porsche 911 GT2 RS's lap record on road tyres

The Ariel Atom 4RR has beaten the Porsche 911 GT2 RS's lap record at Anglesey Circuit in Wales, setting a 1:27.77 to the Manthey-kitted Porsche's 1:29.35, nearly two seconds quicker. Remarkably, it did it in full road trim on road-legal Yokohama tyres. The Atom uses a 2.0-litre turbo Honda Civic Type R engine tuned to 525 hp and weighs just 668 kg, and at 208,000 pounds it undercut the fettled Porsche significantly. Ariel test driver Phil Keen set the time.
