Renault's 1,500-car Rafale hypnotic adds €3,600 of options for €3,300

Renault's flagship gets a numbered run of 1,500 cars in satin forest black, and the price table attached to the announcement shows the equipment alone is worth more than the entire premium over the Atelier Alpine it is based on.

Renault's dearest Rafale is also the cheapest way to buy a loaded one

Renault has put a numbered limited edition on top of its flagship, and priced it as though the badge were free. The Rafale hypnotic asks €63,550 in France against €60,250 for the Atelier Alpine it is built from. The four options it makes standard cost €3,600 on that Atelier Alpine. Everything that makes this car a limited edition therefore arrives at €300 less than nothing.

Rafale hypnotic costs €63,550, or €3,300 above the Atelier Alpine

The hypnotic sits at the top of a five-rung French price list that starts at €46,750 for the techno full hybrid E-Tech 200 hp. Above it come the esprit Alpine at €50,750, the esprit Alpine hyper hybrid 4x4 at €55,750, and the Atelier Alpine hyper hybrid 4x4 at €60,250. The hypnotic is €63,550, a premium of €3,300 over the car it is based on, or €560 a month on Renault's own quoted lease. Renault publishes that table in the same document as the launch, which is what makes the rest of the arithmetic checkable.

The same four options cost €3,600 on an Atelier Alpine

Four items the hypnotic includes as standard are chargeable on the Atelier Alpine: the Solarbay opacifying glass roof at €1,500, the nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system at €1,000, the vision pack with head-up display and heated windscreen at €800, and the 32A wallbox charging cable at €300. That is €3,600 against a €3,300 price rise. The hypnotic also carries a driving and winter pack that the Atelier Alpine cannot be ordered with at all, which Renault does not price anywhere.

Satin forest black paint and 21-inch wheels separate the 1,500 cars

The visual separation is deliberately narrow and entirely dark. Satin-finish forest black bodywork is exclusive to the edition, joined by a black grille, 21-inch satin alloy wheels, a gloss black roof trim and boot spoiler, and a black Atelier Alpine badge. Inside, titanium black Alcantara meets a textured coated fabric with blue, white and red stitching, a backlit Alpine A on the seats, and an individually numbered plate. No mechanical change accompanies any of it.

300 hp and 105 km of electric range carry over untouched

The powertrain is the existing hyper hybrid E-Tech 4x4, a combustion engine working with three electric motors for 300 hp and up to 105 km of electric running. The chassis is the Alpine-developed setup with four-wheel drive, 4Control Advanced four-wheel steering and camera-fed predictive damping. Renault develops these hybrid systems through its Horse Powertrain venture with Geely, and the same E-Tech badge covers the very different battery-electric Scénic E-Tech.

Orders open on 1 October across 14 European countries

Renault takes orders from Thursday 1 October in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Greece, with each market given a share of the 1,500 cars. First deliveries are set for late 2026. The car goes on the Renault stand in Hall 6 at the Paris Motor Show, which runs from 12 to 18 October and is where Alfa Romeo will show its own concept.

AutoNext Take

Renault has not charged for the limited edition. Strip the Hypnotic down to equipment and it is an Atelier Alpine with €3,600 of boxes ticked, sold for €3,300, which leaves the exclusive paint, the 21-inch satin wheels, the Alcantara cabin, the numbered plate and the 1,500-car ceiling arriving at €300 below the cost of the hardware alone. That is the opposite of how run-out specials normally work, where the scarcity is the product and the buyer pays for it. Here the scarcity is the discount.

Orders open on 1 October and the Paris show closes on 18 October, which gives this a short and public test window. Split 1,500 cars across 14 countries and the average market gets fewer than 110, so a French or German allocation that is gone before the stand comes down would mean Renault left money on the table rather than that the edition was a stretch. The harder question is what happens afterwards: once buyers have seen the Atelier Alpine undercut by its own halo, Renault has to explain why anyone should order the standard car at €60,250 in 2027.

The cheapest electric Renault Scenic now charges faster than the expensive one

Renault has given the Scenic E-Tech electric two new batteries. The 89 kWh NMC pack is good for 642 km WLTP and charges from 15 to 80 percent in 28 minutes, nine minutes quicker than the pack it replaces, at the same 150 kW peak. A 67 kWh LFP version follows with 467 km, a 165 kW peak and a 24-minute charge. Prices start at 47,200 euros in Belgium and 46,990 in France.

Alfa Romeo promises a Paris concept for a range ending in 2027

Alfa Romeo will unveil a concept car at the Paris Motor Show on 12 October at 10:55 CEST and calls it a manifesto for its future. The release names Italy, sportiness and the colour red, and nothing else. It lands in a plan that keeps Giulia and Stelvio only through 2027, premieres a C-SUV in late 2027 and lists one few-off, after a 2025 of just over 73,000 sales.
