Renault Twingo's Twingobay glass roof costs €550 and needs no blind
Renault lets light into the Twingo for about three percent of its price
Renault is adding a fixed panoramic glass roof called Twingobay to the electric Twingo, only months after the car went on sale. The option costs €550 or €600 depending on the country, orders open in the coming weeks, and the first car fitted with it appears on Renault's stand at the Paris Motor Show, which opens to the press on 12 October.
Twingobay is a 0.7 m² glass panel with rounded corners
The Twingobay roof covers 0.7 square metres, and its rounded outline follows the soft shapes of the rest of the Twingo instead of the rectangle most panoramic roofs use. Around its edge Renault prints the Twingo graphic alphabet, a set of symbols visible from inside, in which the N takes the shape of the car's headlamp and the G becomes a location pin. Light reaches the front and rear seats alike, and nothing else about the car changes.
No blind: the Twingobay glass filters 99.9 percent of UV light
The Twingobay roof has no sunblind. Instead the glass uses several layers that filter 99.9 percent of ultraviolet light and block most infrared radiation, while a low-emissivity film limits heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. Dropping the blind saves weight and headroom, two things a small electric car has little of to spare. It also means occupants cannot shade the cabin on a bright day, so the coating has to do all the work.
Twingo keeps its 27.5 kWh LFP battery and 82 hp motor
The Twingo underneath is unchanged, with a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a 60 kW front motor worth 82 hp and a WLTP range of up to 263 km. It starts at €19,990 in Germany and under €20,000 in France, so the roof adds roughly three percent to the entry price. British buyers wait until summer 2027. The same Slovenian-built hardware also underpins the Nissan Pixo, due in early 2027, although Nissan has not mentioned a glass roof.
Gemini reaches the Renault Twingo by over-the-air update
Renault is also bringing Google's Gemini assistant to the Twingo, as an optional over-the-air update to Google Assistant, in the same way as on its other models with OpenR Link and Google built-in. Owners need no workshop visit to get it. The roof can only be ordered on new cars, so Gemini is the part of this Twingo update that reaches cars already on the road. On the Nissan Pixo, which shares the Twingo's cabin, Nissan lists Gemini from launch in 16 languages and dialects.
The 1992 Renault Twingo offered a canvas roof that folded open
The first Twingo, shown in October 1992 and on sale from 1993, offered something the new one does not: a roof that opened. A manually folding canvas roof arrived first on the Twingo Air special edition before becoming an option, and a large opening glass roof followed later in the car's life. Around 2.6 million first-generation Twingos were built. In Renault's current electric range, the Renault 4 Plein Sud is the car that keeps that spirit, with a retractable fabric roof.

Renault has picked the right roof for a €20,000 electric car. A fixed panel with a good coating weighs less and costs less than a sliding one, needs no motor and no blind, and still delivers what buyers want from it: a brighter cabin in a small car. At €550 to €600 it is priced as a sensible option rather than a luxury, and the printed alphabet gives the
