The Audi RS e-tron GT Performance is not a rational car and it doesn’t need to be.

Some cars exist because they make sense. Others exist because they push boundaries. And then there’s the Audi RS e-tron GT Performance, a car that, on paper, makes absolutely no sense… yet somehow ends up being one of the most compelling electric vehicles on the market today.

With 925 horsepower, over 1,000 Nm of torque, and a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 2.5 seconds, this is officially the most powerful Audi you can buy right now. But numbers alone don’t tell the full story. Because what Audi has created here is not just a performance EV, it’s a grand tourer with a split personality.

Design: timeless, elegant, and still ahead of its time

The Audi e-tron GT first appeared in 2019, and yet, even today, it looks like a concept car that somehow made it into production unchanged. Where many manufacturers have leaned into aggressive, sometimes over-styled electric designs, Audi chose restraint. The result is a car that feels timeless rather than trendy.

The proportions are near perfect:
a low-slung roofline, a long, sculpted bonnet, and wide, muscular rear arches that give the car a planted, almost exotic stance. It sits closer to a supercar than a traditional GT, and that visual drama hasn’t aged a day. Even with the latest update, changes remain subtle. This isn’t about reinventing the wheel, it’s about refining something that was already right.

Performance: excessive in every possible way

Let’s not pretend otherwise, 925 horsepower in a daily-usable car is completely unnecessary. But that’s exactly what makes it fascinating.

The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers relentless acceleration, and thanks to instant torque delivery, the RS e-tron GT Performance doesn’t build speed, it simply launches itself forward with brutal force.

Push it once, and it’s impressive. Push it repeatedly, and you start to feel it physically. This is not just fast. It’s overwhelmingly fast. Yet what truly sets the car apart isn’t straight-line performance, it’s how it handles its mass.

Driving dynamics: defying physics

At nearly 2,400 kilograms, you’d expect the RS e-tron GT Performance to feel heavy and somewhat disconnected. It doesn’t. Thanks to active air suspension, electric torque vectoring, and a low center of gravity, the car behaves in a way that almost defies logic.

Turn into a corner, and instead of understeer or hesitation, the car simply grips and then actively pulls itself through the bend. The rear axle continuously adjusts torque distribution, giving the impression that the car is being guided rather than driven.

It’s incredibly efficient. Almost too efficient. At times, it feels slightly surreal how composed and capable it is, especially considering its weight. You’re constantly reminded that this level of performance should come with compromises, but here, they’re surprisingly well hidden.

More GT than RS?

Interestingly, despite its extreme performance figures, the RS e-tron GT Performance doesn’t behave like a traditional RS model. Instead of being aggressively sharp or constantly urging you to drive faster, it leans heavily into its grand touring character.

Compared to its closest relative, the Porsche Taycan, the Audi feels:

  • more refined

  • more composed

  • more focused on comfort over raw edge

In everyday driving, the suspension absorbs imperfections with ease, and the cabin remains impressively quiet. Long-distance journeys are where this car truly shines, it’s effortless, stable, and incredibly relaxing. This duality defines the car: a calm, comfortable GT when you want it and a ballistic missile when you don’t.

Interior: classic Audi, and that’s a good thing

Step inside, and you immediately notice that Audi hasn’t followed the trend of oversized screens and fully digital minimalism. Instead, the RS e-tron GT Performance offers a clean, driver-focused cockpit with:

  • physical buttons for essential functions

  • a low dashboard layout

  • a balanced mix of digital and tactile controls

It feels intuitive, familiar, and refreshingly usable. In a time where many cars force you through endless menus, this approach feels almost luxurious in itself. However, not everything is perfect.

The infotainment system is arguably the car’s biggest drawback. It’s not unusable, but it feels outdated for a car of this calibre:

  • slow startup times

  • delayed responsiveness

  • Apple CarPlay that takes its time to connect

Regeneration and braking: powerful, but not perfect

One-pedal driving is present, but not particularly aggressive. Drivers coming from other EVs might expect stronger regenerative braking, especially in a performance-focused model like this. The system works, but it lacks the intensity that would make it truly engaging.

That said, the optional Audi Ceramic Composite Brakes (ACCB) more than compensate when it comes to stopping power. When needed, the car slows down with absolute authority.

Price, options and configuration: entering supercar territory

The RS e-tron GT Performance starts at over €160,000, and with options, it quickly climbs higher. That places it firmly in a segment where expectations are extremely high and competition is strong. Yet, the Audi offers something quite unique:

  • supercar-level performance

  • true grand touring comfort

  • a design that stands out without shouting

And if you’re investing in a car like this, personalization matters. Audi’s Exclusive program offers a wide range of striking colours (from deep greens to vibrant blues and reds) all capable of transforming the car into something truly unique.

It’s highly recommended. Less convincing, however, is the optional Matte Carbon Camouflage package. While it aims to add visual drama, it clashes with the car’s otherwise elegant design language. It feels out of place, more aftermarket than premium.

AutoNext Take

The Audi RS e-tron GT Performance exists to prove what’s possible, and in doing so, it delivers one of the most complete electric driving experiences currently available.

It’s brutally fast, surprisingly comfortable, and visually stunning. A car that can cross continents in silence… and then completely rewrite your perception of acceleration. It may not be the sharpest driver’s car in its class, and its infotainment system shows its age, but none of that overshadows what it does so well.

This is not just one of the fastest Audis ever built. It’s one of the most impressive electric GT cars you can buy today.
