BMW's 100 Jahre Nürburgring edition caps the bikes, not the M cars
Nine BMWs wear Nürburgring Green, and only three of them come with a number
The Nürburgring turns 100 in 2027, and BMW is marking it a year early with nine machines finished in a historical shade called Nürburgring Green. Six are BMW M cars, three are BMW Motorrad's M superbikes, and all of them share an anniversary logo and the tagline Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets. Only the motorcycles say how many will exist.
The M 1000 RR, R and XR are each one of 100 worldwide
BMW Motorrad is building 100 units of each of its three M bikes, and every one of them says so: the airbox cover carries an individual one of 100 marking. Standard equipment on all three is the M Track Package, carbon wheels with Nürburgring Green accent stripes, a black swingarm and rear frame, and an Alcantara-look seat with an embroidered 100. The fuel tank wears a painted Nordschleife outline. Ordering details are still to come.
BMW puts no build limit on the M2, M3, M4 or M5
BMW attaches no production figure to the car half of the edition. The M2, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring all get the same green paint, edition graphics on the front doors, C-pillar and rear flanks, striped roofs and green accents on the wheels and kidney grilles. Anyone who wants the badge without the colour can order Black Sapphire metallic instead. BMW has numbered an anniversary car before: it built exactly 40 M3s for the model's own 40th birthday, and sold every one of them in China. Orders for five of the six open this month, with the M2 following in January 2027.
M Ignite is in the edition, and in every new M3 already
The pre-chamber ignition system BMW calls M Ignite is presented as the edition's key technical innovation, fitted to the inline-six models. It is not an edition part. BMW put it into series production in the M3 and M4 in July 2026 and in the M2 that August, so any of those cars built since already has it. It sharpens efficiency under sustained high load and helps the engines clear Euro 7 without costing output: the M3 Competition xDrive still makes 530 hp.
The two M5s skip the racetrack technology entirely
M Ignite is a six-cylinder development, so the M5 Sedan and M5 Touring do not have it. They run the M Hybrid V8 instead, 727 hp combined, and take their anniversary content in Styling 951 M wheels with green accents and black Nordschleife embroidery. The two most expensive cars in an edition sold on technology transfer from the Nordschleife transfer none of it.
Porsche marked the same centenary with 100 cars, for Germany only
Porsche reached this anniversary first, in August, with a 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring capped at 100 cars, sold in Germany alone and delivered in 2027, the anniversary year itself. BMW has gone the other way: nine models, six body styles, global availability and order books opening a full year before the date. The circuit opened on 18 June 1927, and BMW Motorrad won there that same season, which is the link BMW is really marking. The Nordschleife it develops on runs 20.8 km and 73 corners.
AutoNext Take
Exclusive is doing two different jobs in one press release. On the motorcycles it means a hard cap of 100 and a serial number stamped on the airbox cover. On the cars it means a paint code, some decals and green stitching, available to whoever orders for as long as BMW takes orders. Those are not the same product, and putting them under one edition name flatters the half that is an options package.
That gap will show up in what these cars are worth. A 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring is one of 100 and always will be. A Nürburgring Green M4 is one of however many BMW sells between September and the day the order book closes. BMW has until January 2027, when M2 orders open, to put a figure on the car half of its own anniversary. If it never does, the green is a colour rather than an edition, and the used market will price it that way.
